Summary/Objective
- The Clinical Infusion and Research Manager is responsible for the overall clinical, operational, and regulatory oversight of infusion and research services within the neurology-focused infusion center. This role provides leadership and supervision to clinical infusion and research staff, ensures compliance with clinical protocols, research regulations, and organizational policies, and supports high-quality, patient-centered care delivery across all infusion and research activities.
- The Clinical Infusion and Research Manager collaborates closely with providers, research coordinators, infusion nurses, managers, and administrative teams to ensure efficient workflows, regulatory compliance, staff competency, and optimal patient outcomes.
Work Environment
- This role operates within a medical infusion and research center and routinely utilizes standard medical and office equipment, including infusion pumps, vital sign monitors, EKG machines, computers, EMR systems, phones, and office equipment. Travel to satellite infusion locations may be required.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Management
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for Clinical Infusion and Research RNs and support staff
- Foster a professional, compassionate, and collaborative work environment
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing competency validation of clinical staff
- Ensure appropriate staffing coverage, scheduling, and workflow efficiency across infusion and research operations
Clinical Oversight
- Ensure safe administration and monitoring of IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and oral therapies
- Oversee infusion services including disease-modifying therapies, ketamine infusions, IVIG, biologics, and other specialty treatments
- Provide clinical support and escalation for complex patient care scenarios, adverse events, and infusion reactions
- Ensure compliance with provider orders, EMR documentation standards, and medication administration protocols
Research & Study Start-Up Oversight
- Ensure adherence to clinical research protocols, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements
- Support research coordinators by maintaining proper data flow, documentation accuracy, and protocol compliance
- Serve as a liaison between providers, research staff, sponsors, and regulatory bodies as needed
- Ensure appropriate handling, storage, accountability, and documentation of investigational products
- Lead and support study start-up activities, including feasibility assessments, site readiness evaluations, staffing assessments, and workflow development
- Collaborate with investigators, research coordinators, sponsors, and CROs during study initiation to ensure operational readiness
- Assist with development and implementation of study-specific workflows, nursing procedures, and training materials
- Ensure staff education and competency related to protocol requirements, investigational product handling, and study-specific procedures
Research Financial & Regulatory Management
- Track and monitor study-related monies on a quarterly basis, including sponsor payments, pass-through costs, and infusion-related research revenue
- Collaborate with leadership and finance teams to ensure accurate billing, reimbursement tracking, and financial reconciliation for research studies
- Identify financial variances or trends and escalate concerns to leadership as appropriate
- Ensure compliance with research billing, documentation, and regulatory standards
Operational & Compliance Responsibilities
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and ensure staff adherence to privacy, documentation, and ePHI standards
- Oversee inventory management of medications, supplies, and equipment, including ordering, rotation, and disposal
- Ensure OSHA, infection control, and safety standards are followed at all times
- Assist with development, implementation, and enforcement of clinical policies, procedures, and workflows
Patient Experience & Quality
- Promote high standards of patient education related to disease processes, infusion therapies, and research participation
- Address patient concerns, complaints, and service recovery issues as needed
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity throughout all infusion and research encounters
- Collaborate with providers to identify psychosocial needs and coordinate appropriate referrals
Physical Demands
- May be required to assist with patient transfers and lifting with assistance. Work involves standing and walking for extended periods. Visual acuity, auditory acuity, and manual dexterity are essential. Exposure to infectious agents, stressful situations, and variable clinical demands may occur.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full time position, x4 10-hour shifts each week. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Evening work may be required as job duties demand.
OSHA Exposure Classification:
- Job Category I. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids (Bloodborne Pathogens) to which Universal Precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
Travel
- Travel may be required to additional infusion centers in satellite locations.
Required Education and Experience
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan
Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical infusion experience preferred
- Prior leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- BLS and ACLS required
- Experience in neurology infusion therapies and/or clinical research preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of infusion operations, regulatory compliance, and staff leadership
