Principal Data Analyst - hybrid based in Lexington, MA
Mimecast is a global leader in unified email management, offering cloud services for email security, continuity, and archiving. We are seeking a Principal Data Analyst to play a pivotal role in transforming complex data into strategic assets that inform business decisions and drive growth using a modern data stack that includes Tableau, Snowflake, GitHub, and dbt. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver robust data models, insightful dashboards, and in-depth analyses that illustrate business performance and opportunities.
A core responsibility of this role is the ability to distill complex, multi-dimensional datasets into clear, user-friendly visualizations that tell a compelling story. Your visualizations will cut through data complexity to highlight what matters most, enabling faster, more confident decision-making across the organization.

What You'll Do:
- Partner with business leaders and technical teams to gather requirements, translate business questions into analytical projects, and communicate findings through clear, concise visualizations and executive-ready presentations
- Translate technical data complexity into business clarity, creating visualizations that distill intricate information into straightforward, digestible formats that non-technical stakeholders can immediately understand and act upon
- Develop, construct, and support last-mile SQL transformations in dbt
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve data processes, streamline workflows, implement BI best practices, and enhance the overall impact and efficiency of the analytics function
- Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across all dashboards and reports
- Coach, mentor, and upskill junior team members by providing guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering continuous professional development within the analytics team
- Support the development of self-service analytics capabilities, empowering business users to explore data independently
What You'll Bring:
- Proven experience designing, building, and optimizing interactive dashboards in Tableau (or similar BI tools)
- Excellent communication skills; able to work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and present data-driven recommendations
- Highly proficient in SQL, with the ability to improve queries for optimal dashboard performance
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into actionable insights
- Utilizes predictive analytics to identify trends and provide counsel to departments
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail when working with data and developing analytical outputs
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
- Commitment to ongoing learning and staying updated with the latest BI trends
- Experience working with data transformation tools, including dbt, for building, testing, and maintaining data models
- Familiarity with cloud data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake, AWS)
- Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and development of best practices
- 5 years experience in business intelligence or data analysis roles
- 5 years writing efficient and optimized SQL queries with the ability to write complex, optimized queries for performance and scalability
- 5 years of hands-on experience developing interactive dashboards using Tableau (or similar BI platforms like Power BI)
- Creating executive-level visualizations or operational visualizations
- 1 years building and maintain data models in dbt
- Programming skills in Python (desired) for advanced analytics, data manipulation, automation, and statistical analysis
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics)
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles, dimensional modeling, and data warehouse concepts
The base salary range for this position is $128,000 $192,000 plus benefits. This range represents the minimum and maximum new hire compensation for this role. The position may also be eligible for incentive plans and additional benefits, in accordance with company policy and local regulations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location with individual compensation also dependent on factors such as qualifications, experience, and skills. Final offers will reflect these considerations and may vary accordingly.
