What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gym Scheduling & Events Coordinator position at Milwaukee Turners, Inc.?
Who We Are: Working for social justice since 1853, the Milwaukee Turners (c3) are the oldest civic group in the city, dedicated to strengthening our community based on the ideal of a “Sound Mind in a Sound Body.” Our guiding principles are “Liberty against all oppression; Tolerance against all fanaticism; Reason against all superstition; and Justice against all exploitation.” We seek to be the embodiment of a diverse community in practice that confronts injustice; and fosters wellness, community restoration, and civic empowerment to advance the residents of Milwaukee and its neighbors. We have a rich history of civic engagement - we provided the bodyguards for Lincoln during his inauguration, were the first secular group in Wisconsin to ban nazis as members, and held early debates for women’s suffrage and the 8-hour workday in our halls. All three of Milwaukee’s socialist mayors were Turners. We offer nonpartisan civic, cultural and educational programs, such as the Vel Phillips Forum, and teach gymnastics and physical fitness from our nationally designated historic landmark, Turner Hall. Membership is incredibly and intentionally diverse, reflective of the community we serve. Under new leadership and with an increasingly diverse board, our membership has increased from around 70 members to about 700 members from across Milwaukee over the past year. We partner with other local community organizations to host mutual aid events, diaper drives, blood drives, along with children and family classes. Our building contains a 1,000 person concert hall, a 5,200 square foot gymnasium, an 8,200 square foot restaurant space, meeting rooms, and historic artwork.
