Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks an exceptional Instructional Coach - Science (Grades K-8) candidate who is highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders. ;

The Instructional Coach - Science (Grades K-8) is a non-evaluative, non-supervisory teacher position that will work collaboratively with district content personnel, other Teacher Leaders, Instructional Coaches, classroom teachers, School Learning Teams, and District Instructional Leaders to support the effective implementation of district initiatives and content area standards across the district. This position will support teachers in providing effective instruction that will increase student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Spends a majority (with a minimum of 80%) of work time in schools and classrooms while students are present
  • Interacts and collaborates with Teachers on the implementation of district initiatives, curricula, and assessments based on standards.
  • Analyzes and uses data from district accountability measures and performance assessments to guide both district and school-based work.
  • Facilitates the critical school-based and district-wide professional development for school-based teachers, administrators, beginning teachers and other staff to build capacity to improve teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrates and models effective instructional strategies for teachers in their classrooms based on research proven practices aligned with district initiatives and content standards.
  • Demonstrates, models and facilitates effective coaching strategies.
  • Supports schools with the implementation of the Instructional Guides
  • Collaborates with community partners to develop resources for teaching and learning.
  • Provides curriculum support for the MPS summer school program
  • Participates in on-going leadership and professional development
  • Designs and models instructional strategies including interdisciplinary lessons and projects to support the goals of district initiatives and content standards.
  • Designs and facilitates district and school-level (including, but not limited to grade and department level) professional development focused on all areas of district initiatives and content standards, including on district PD days.
  • Create learning resources for teachers, staff, and students
  • Understands, monitors and supports implementation of instructional practices with fidelity in classrooms
  • Works collaboratively with teachers, other teaching specialists, and district and school leaders; provides effective, formative, feedback in an equitable manner.
  • Accurately maintains Outlook Calendar on a daily basis, and efficiently completes required paperwork.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, for example attends and facilitates mandatory professional developments outside of regular work schedule.
  • Supports grants as directed by their supervisor
  • Learns and supports all district supported learning resources and virtual platforms
  • Seeks learning opportunities to stay current in specific content areas and with technology used to perform daily job functions.
  • Build trust to facilitate change, to plan strategically, and distribute leadership to build capacity
  • Engages in practices with students, families, staff, and school leaders that reflects equity, cultural awareness, and cultural responsiveness
  • Performs other duties as assigned ;

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience as a fully certified regular K-8 classroom teacher. ;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching science at the elementary or middle school level. ;
  • Master¿s degree preferred
  • Valid teaching License
  • Experience in providing professional development at the school or district level is preferred.
  • Experience using instructional technology to improve student performance
  • Experience in a leadership role within a diverse, multicultural teaching and learning environment is preferred.
  • Possess knowledge and ability to create and implement science integrated lesson and unit plans
  • Exhibit ability to prioritize multiple tasks, balance responsibilities, and maintain mission-oriented focus ;
  • Consistently project a positive, team-oriented disposition ;
  • Exhibits ability to work effectively with marginalized students and families in a manner that produces positive engagement and outcomes

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The Instructional Coach - Science (Grades K-8) salary schedule starts at $62,786.16 and increases according to the set salary schedule based on education beyond the required bachelor's degree and previous years of fully licensed K-12 teaching experience. ;

Salary range: $62,786.16 - 117,586.72.31 (1D - 200-day calendar)
