Job Summary: Environmental Services Workers perform cleaning duties, including floor finishing in Zoo buildings and the grounds. This role will set up and break down furniture for both internal and external events in the Zoo’s rental areas.
Essential Responsibilities:
One (1) or more years of Institutional Cleaning experience.
NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Cleaning: This role involves working independently or as part of a team to complete daily cleaning tasks in order to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Daily responsibilities include floor care, restroom cleaning, vacuuming, window cleaning, restocking supplies, emptying trash, and cleaning a variety of surfaces with a strong attention to detail.
- Set up and break down for events: Follow work orders by setting up chairs, tables, risers, stages, and podiums for internal and external events held at the Zoo. Ensure the space meets the needs of the customer as outlined in the work order.
- Maintain floors: Sweep, mop, wax, and buff all hard surface floors. Vacuum and extract carpeted floors.
- Training: Train seasonal Zoo Workers how to correctly use equipment, how and what to clean, as well as what products to use.
- Assist with locking and opening doors: Lock buildings if working second shift, unlock doors as needed during the day shift. May be asked to assist the Night Keeper in emergencies.
- Snow removal: May be asked to assist the grounds department with snow removal and salting walks when needed.
- All other duties as assigned
- Current resident of Wisconsin.
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License, able to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
One (1) or more years of Institutional Cleaning experience.
