Summary

The of Fire Alarm Technician provides electrical services with specific responsibility for fire alarm installing, programming, repairing , and replacing related equipment; maintaining a regular inspection schedule; documenting activities; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Read and interpret blue prints, schematics, and drawings of fire alarm and/or other related electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.

  • Coordinate with assigned Project Manager, General Contactor Superintendent or Foreman to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Diagnose cause of fire alarm related problems or failures with multiple manufactured systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
  • Communicates with Project Manager, General Contactor Superintendent or Foreman personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with appropriate codes & regulations.
  • Inspect and evaluate fire alarm systems and their components, identify necessary repairs and recommend preventive maintenance.
  • Install fire alarm system components as assigned (e.g. panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.).
  • Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, supplies and test equipment to ensure availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
  • Respond to emergency situations during and after hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages 0-5 Technicians and Helpers. Is responsible for the overall direction and coordination. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Fire Alarm System Agent/Burglar Alarm System Agent certification
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies
  • ESA/NTS Certified Alarm Technician Level 1 or higher

Other Qualifications

  • Must have a current driver’s license and a driving record that meets company minimum requirements.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must pass background check.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment includes exposure to weather and client processes

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
