Position Summary:

The Plumbing Superintendent is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, supervision, and execution of assigned plumbing construction projects. This position provides leadership to Foremen and field personnel to ensure plumbing systems are installed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and company objectives.


The Plumbing Superintendent serves as the primary field leader for assigned projects and is responsible for workforce planning, productivity, safety, project documentation, customer relations, and coordination with Project Managers, customers, vendors, inspectors, and other trades. This position provides technical oversight of plumbing installations and exercises independent judgment in directing field operations to ensure the successful performance of assigned projects.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, direct, and oversee all field operations for assigned projects to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable project execution.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to Foremen and field personnel, including workforce planning, labor allocation, employee development, performance management, and staffing recommendations.
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of Foremen and field crews to ensure work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, schedules, and company expectations.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project requirements to develop and execute field work plans.
  • Monitor project progress, labor productivity, manpower utilization, work quality, and overall project performance, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate material procurement, deliveries, equipment utilization, and jobsite logistics to support project schedules and operational requirements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Foremen to identify and address schedule impacts, labor needs, material issues, change orders, project risks, and productivity opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary field contact for customers, general contractors, inspectors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project activities with other trades to maintain workflow and minimize delays and conflicts.
  • Enforce company safety policies, conduct safety observations, participate in investigations, and ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements.
  • Ensure employee time records, production reporting, project reports, safety documentation, inspections, and other required project documentation are completed accurately and submitted timely in accordance with company and project requirements.
  • Ensure company policies, procedures, and standards are consistently followed across assigned projects.
  • Oversee the installation of sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, domestic water, natural gas, medical gas, and specialty plumbing systems.
  • Coordinate and oversee underground plumbing installations, above-ground rough-in activities, finish work, testing, inspections, commissioning, and project turnover activities.
  • Review plumbing drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and coordination documents to ensure accurate field execution and resolve installation conflicts, constructability concerns, and field coordination issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable plumbing codes, project specifications, inspection requirements, and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Plumbing Foremen regarding installation methods, code compliance, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Participate in project planning meetings, progress meetings, and leadership meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of commercial plumbing construction practices, sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, domestic water, natural gas, medical gas, and specialty plumbing systems.
  • Knowledge of construction project management principles, field operations, workforce planning, and jobsite coordination.
  • Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and directing multiple work activities, crews, and project priorities to achieve project objectives.
  • Skill in supervising, developing, coaching, and evaluating Foremen and field personnel.
  • Skill in reviewing plumbing drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and coordination documents.
  • Ability to allocate labor, equipment, materials, and other resources to maximize productivity and project performance.
  • Ability to identify and resolve constructability issues, field conflicts, scheduling challenges, and other project-related problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, Project Managers, customers, general contractors, inspectors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions regarding project execution, workforce management, safety, quality, and operational priorities.


    Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in commercial plumbing constructions or related plumbing operations.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a Foreman, Superintendent, or other construction leadership role with responsibility for directing field personnel and project activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise multiple crews, Foreman and field crews while maintaining safety, productivity and quality standards.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience managing large commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, or institutional plumbing construction projects.
  • Experience with project management, scheduling, timekeeping, or construction management software.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Experience mentoring Foremen, Superintendents, or other construction leaders.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk active construction jobsites for extended periods, including traversing uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and other access points.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb as necessary to observe work activities, conduct inspections, and perform jobsite oversight responsibilities.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials, tools, or equipment weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds and, on occasion, up to fifty (50) pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and active construction environments while observing work activities and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, noise, dust, and inclement weather while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to maintain mobility and balance while navigating active construction sites and accessing work areas.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel between jobsites, company locations, and meetings as required.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to monitor work activities, recognize hazards, provide direction, and perform job duties safely.
  • Sufficient visual and auditory ability to review project conditions, inspect work quality, identify safety concerns, and communicate with employees, customers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
