Job Summary/Basic Function


About the position:


The Collections Accessibility Technician and Evening Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that library users have access to print and electronic library materials (excluding those help/collected by Archives & Special Collections). This includes supervision of Course Reserves, Document Remediation services, and Stacks Maintenance. The Library Collections Accessibility Technician also oversees all evening library operations (including Circulation services). In addition, this position oversees Resource Sharing Lending Workflows and assists with copy cataloging as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Document Remediation
  • Supervise workflows for document remediation requests in compliance with ADA Title II accessibility compliance requirements.
  • Remediate PDFs and other documents for Course Reserves and/or requested by library patrons to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility.
  • Monitor and delegate remediation requests.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and training for remediation services.
  • Train and supervise student supervisors in document remediation.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on all remediated documents before delivery.
  • Track remediation requests and fulfillment for compliance purposes.


Course Reserves
  • Supervise all physical and electronic Course Reserves operations and process items as needed.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation, training materials, and forms for all Course Reserves processes.
  • Train and supervise student supervisors for processing physical and electronic reserve items, using appropriate software and scanning equipment.
  • Communicate with MU faculty regarding items on course reserves.
  • Perform annual check with MU faculty regarding the relevancy/currency of their Course Reserve items.
  • Ensure compliance with the Millersville University Copyright Policy for Course Reserves.
  • Submit copyright clearance requests to obtain permission for use of physical and electronic reserves as needed, in accordance with policy.
  • Compile interlibrary loan (ILL) and course reserve copyright charges for payment.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all copyright files.

Lending and Borrowing:
  • Processes lending requests for books and electronic articles using the ILLiad, ReShare, and RapidX systems; others as necessary.
  • Oversee all Rapid Interlibrary loan lending requests.
    • These Rapid requests are filled from electronic databases and articles stored here on microfilm and in paper formats. Each format requires different processing procedures using software and equipment to fill a request.
  • Abide by 24-hour turnaround for Rapid and Document Delivery agreements and a timely manner (usually three to five business days) for E-ZBorrow and Interlibrary loan books.
  • Ensures compliance with consortial turn-around time agreements (Rapid = 24 hrs, E-ZBorrow = 3 to 5 days)
  • Oversee daily retrieval, scanning and processing of Interlibrary Loan lending requests and Document Delivery in accord with established policies.
  • Process Access PA and IU13 requests from public schools / libraries.
  • Assist with some borrowing procedures when needed.
  • Update lender profiles in Alma and ILLiad as needed.
  • Track overdue interlibrary loan items shipped through lending. Communicate with and/or invoice borrowers as necessary.
  • Research the requests for materials that are not readily identifiable through the provided databases.
  • Determine if any billing charges should be applied for article requests and loans (books, DVDs) after checking for IFM and consulting the OCLC Policies Directory.
  • Monitor the L-Delivery Lending folder and check the L-Delivery in-box when other staff are off for more than 2 business days.
  • Use Odyssey, Article Exchange, email, microfilm scanner, book scanner and any necessary software and equipment for processing and distributing requests
  • Learn new methods, software, workflows, etc. to provide timely accessibility of library materials to patrons.
  • Use the ILS to circulate items, change due dates, renew and recall items; create holds; check item status etc.
  • Create new ILL patron accounts and update addresses in the ILS as needed.
  • Understand use of electronic journals and databases, bound journals, and microfilm for article processes.

Evening Supervisor
  • Supervise all evening Access Services operations including Circulation and Resource Sharing Services.
  • Ensure student employee coverage for closing shifts.
  • Communicate facilities issues or other emergencies to appropriate campus partners and communicates with the Director of Library Operations and Library Technologist as needed.

Stack Maintenance:
  • Supervise Stacks Maintenance for the general collections, juvenile collection, curriculum collections, reference collection, microfilm collection, and bound periodicals so that they remain accessible to library patrons. This includes sorting, shelving, shelf-reading, straightening, searching, and inventorying items.
  • Create and update range signs.
  • Assess and address/repair damaged items / duplicate call numbers / splice and repair microfilm.
  • Ensure proper distribution of kick stools
  • Perform regular walk-throughs of the stacks periodically to assess stack maintenance needs in coordination with the Resource Sharing Technician and Director of Library Operations.
  • Identifies/recommends and supervises stacks projects including collection shifts, relocation, and reconfiguration of shelving.
  • Supervise and train student workers to assist with stacks projects as needed.
  • Stack Maintenance special projects.

Cataloging
  • Serves as a back-up to the Cataloging Technician
  • Performs copy cataloging as needed/as time allows.
  • Assists with other cataloging projects as time allows, including eBook record cataloging

Supervision, Personnel, and Training:
  • Supervise all Access Services student staff in the evening.
  • Supervise the Library Graduate Assistant.
  • Ensure quality customer service and operational efficiency by checking the accuracy of the work performed by the student assistants.
  • Issue warnings, corrective actions, and praise as appropriate to student employees and inform colleagues of these actions and issues.

Other:
  • Monitor professional listservs; attend workshops, webinars and conferences as appropriate.
  • Use various equipment including microfilm scanners as necessary.
  • Keep current with trends in WCAG accessibility standards and Access Services.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Four years of library-clerical work including two years of advanced library clerical work comparable to the Library Technician, and graduation from high school OR two years of advanced library clerical work, and an associate degree or equivalent training with major course work in library science OR a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior experience working with an ILS or systems used to perform Interlibrary Loan functions.
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1AA accessibility standards.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Evidence of ability to train and supervise others.
  • Evidence of ability to be self-directed .
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Prior experience with Resource Sharing, Circulation, Interlibrary Loan activities.
  • Prior work experience in an academic library.
  • Prior experience remediating documents for WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
  • Prior experience working with Alma ILS, ILLiad, ReShare and/or RapidX.
  • Prior copy cataloging experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience
