Conveyor Belt Engineer (Copper Mining Operations Support)

We are seeking a skilled Conveyor Belt Engineer to support the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of conveyor systems across industrial and mining operations. This role includes specialized responsibilities supporting copper mining activities, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of materials throughout extraction and processing areas.
The position requires close collaboration with Field Service Engineers, maintenance teams, operational personnel, and customer stakeholders to deliver reliable conveyor performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Conveyor System Engineering
- Inspect conveyor layouts, specifications, and component selections.
- Perform conveyor belt calculations and system assessments.
- Evaluate system performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and recommendations.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose mechanical, operational, and process-related issues.
- Conduct root-cause analyses and recommend corrective actions.
- Support preventive maintenance planning and reliability initiatives.
- Assist with equipment upgrades and system optimization projects.
Mining Safety & MSHA Compliance
- Support compliance with MSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in mining hazard assessments and risk mitigation activities.
- Recommend safety improvements to reduce downtime and operational risk.
- Promote a strong culture of safety throughout mining operations.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor conveyor belt wear caused by abrasive ore and recommend suitable belt cover materials.
- Troubleshoot spillage, mistracking, misalignment, and high-impact loading issues.
- Analyze system performance and recommend improvements to maximize efficiency and uptime.
- Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to minimize disruptions.
Team Collaboration
- Provide technical support and guidance to Field Service Engineers.
- Foster knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the service team.
- Work closely with mining supervisors, maintenance personnel, and operational improvement teams.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and site stakeholders.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with troughed conveyor belt material handling systems.
- Proficiency with conveyor design and calculation software (e.g., Belt Analyst).
- Strong understanding of CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel occasionally, including interstate and international travel.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in mining, aggregate, or bulk material handling industries.
- Knowledge of copper mining operations and material handling processes.
- Spanish language proficiency (written and spoken).
- Experience supporting field service or customer-facing engineering activities.
Working Environment
This position combines office-based engineering work with field support activities at industrial and mining sites. Candidates should be comfortable working in active operational environments and traveling as needed to support customer installations, inspections, and troubleshooting activities.
