Position Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for the successful onsite execution of heavy civil construction projects, overseeing daily operations from planning through completion. This role is critical in coordinating crews, subcontractors, materials, equipment, and schedules while upholding Miller Bros.’ standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject & Field Operations
- Direct daily jobsite operations and supervise field crews, foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Plan and schedule manpower, equipment, and materials to meet production goals and project deadlines
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards
- Maintain accurate project documentation including daily logs, production reports, and punch lists
- Coordinate inspections and ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations
- Communicate daily with Project Managers regarding job progress, cost tracking, and schedule updates
- Set clear expectations and provide direction to foremen and crew members
Safety & Compliance
- Lead and promote a strong onsite safety culture
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures
- Conduct weekly safety meetings and daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Investigate and report incidents and near-misses in coordination with the Safety Director
- Oversee and ensure compliance with SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan)
Leadership & Communication
- Serve as the primary onsite representative of Miller Bros.
- Maintain professional relationships with clients, inspectors, and vendors
- Mentor and develop crew members to build future leaders
- Lead with integrity, accountability, and alignment with company values
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure smooth execution and resolve issues
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong leadership and field management experience
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction schedules
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution abilities
- Knowledge of safety regulations, quality control, and civil construction best practices
- Experience with construction software (HeavyJob, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to travel to various job sites and work in varying weather conditions
- Physically capable of lifting up to 100 lbs. and working on uneven terrain
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years of heavy civil or roadway construction experience, including supervisory roles
- OSHA 30 certification and First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with estimating, production tracking, and cost control is a plus
