Long Term Substitute 1.0 FTE Junior High School ELA Teacher (Grades 7 - 12)
DESCRIPTION:
The long-term substitute junior high ELA teacher will be a passionate educator dedicated to fostering a love for the English Language Arts among all students in grades 7 through 12. With a strong background in curriculum design and instruction, this teacher will skillfully integrate foundational reading skills with the core principles of ELA to create engaging, meaningful learning experiences. Committed to academic excellence and equity, they will cultivate a rigorous yet supportive classroom environment where every student feels valued, challenged, and empowered to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually. By showcasing the richness of language and literature, this educator will inspire students to think critically, communicate effectively, and develop a lifelong appreciation for reading and writing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of an MA DESE license in the area of English (5-12)
Additional ELA-based licensures preferred
SEI Endorsement
Experience in planning, directing, and assisting group and individual instructional activities that are engaging and multi-sensory
Strong ELA content and practice skills to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Strong communication skills and a background in working with parents/guardians as partners in the educational process
The ability to accommodate diverse learning styles
Experience utilizing the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) preferred
Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred but not required

GENERAL DUTIES:
Provide multiple instructional and engagement strategies in a classroom environment to meet the needs of all learning styles
Function as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team
Analyze individual student data and use that information to develop measurable goals, objectives, and corresponding lessons/units
Develop curriculum that is standards-based, rooted in fundamentals, vertically aligned, incorporates 21st Century Learning Skills, and provides students with inquiry-based learning opportunities.
Apply appropriate knowledge to curriculum content/instruction, plan lessons, and align assessment of student learning while monitoring students' understanding of the curriculum and adjusting instruction, materials, or assessments, using data-driven techniques as appropriate.
Participate in related school meetings, which are held for the purpose of improving both curricula and extracurricular activities
Collaborate with the various school-based departments to support and address student needs.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress.
Perform other professional duties as outlined and requested by the building Principal.
SALARY: In accordance with the teachers’ contract
WORK YEAR: Tentatively Scheduled for January 5, 2026 - Last day of school
