Barista

Mill & Whistle is the newest addition to Wilmington's historic downtown. We're a year-round, fast-casual drive-thru cafe serving high-quality coffee and light breakfast bites. We also have a small retail space where we sell curated home and pantry goods. We're building a dependable, consistent, high-standards operation. That only works if our entire team is sharp, reliable, and takes pride in delivering the same great experience to every single customer, every single day.

We open at 6:00 AM daily. This role is a dedicated opener, arriving at 5:30 AM to get the cafe online and moving. This may change as we expand hours, but need a commitment to early mornings to start.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This is a cross-trained role. Your primary role will be owning the barista station, but you will touch almost everything customer-facing at the cafe:

• Execute the coffee, espresso & beverage program quickly and consistently
• Setup, breakdown and maintain a clean, efficient espresso/coffee bar setup throughout the shift
• Run the POS (Toast) and order-ahead queue efficiently
• Engage customers warmly while keeping lines moving
• Prep and finish light food items as needed
• Support retail operation with daily reset including stocking shelves, rotating inventory, and keeping retail displays tidy
• Receive small deliveries and restock grab-and-go items
• Maintain the highest cleanliness standards

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable starting before sunrise
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, on-your-feet environment
• Friendly but efficient. We value speed and consistency
• Experience as a barista or in food service is a plus, but we're open to training the right candidate
• Able to maintain composure during rushes and follow systems exactly
• Positive attitude, team-first mindset, and willingness to learn

SCHEDULE

• Full-time (40 hours/week)
• All opening shifts (5:30 AM start) for now, but we plan to expand hours in 2026
• (Some) weekend availability required
