What are the responsibilities and job description for the JV Boys Soccer Coach position at Mill River Union High School?
The Junior Varsity (JV) Boys Soccer Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and supervising the JV Boys Soccer program while supporting the overall philosophy and goals of the athletic department and varsity soccer program. The coach will focus on skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, player growth, and preparing student-athletes for advancement to the varsity level.
The JV coach is expected to foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment that emphasizes character, accountability, and academic success while promoting student-athlete well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that emphasize player development, fundamentals, conditioning, and soccer strategy.
Develop student-athletes’ technical, tactical, and physical skills while preparing players for progression to the varsity program.
Work collaboratively with the Varsity Boys Soccer Coach to maintain program consistency, philosophy, and expectations.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team-related activities.
Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and respect for teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents.
Establish and communicate clear expectations regarding attendance, effort, conduct, and academic accountability.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes by following district, league, and state athletic guidelines.
Maintain appropriate communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, athletic administration, and school staff.
Assist with equipment management, uniforms, and care of facilities.
Attend required coaches meetings, professional development opportunities, and athletic department functions.
Support and encourage multi-sport participation when appropriate.
Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes both on and off the field.
Qualifications
Previous soccer coaching and/or playing experience preferred.
Knowledge of soccer fundamentals, player development, and game strategy.
Ability to positively mentor and motivate high school student-athletes.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching staff and school environment.
Must meet all district, state, and athletic association coaching certification requirements, including first aid/concussion training as required.
