The Milken Institute's events and programmatic activities, involve the exchange of ideas with leaders from around the world. The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500 participants from around the world, featuring more than 900 speakers throughout 200 sessions over the course of the event. 


About the Position


The Executive Vice-President (EVP) provides strategic vision, leadership, and operational oversight for the organization’s Finance Pillar. This position reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for advancing high-impact initiatives to mobilize public, private, and philanthropic capital to foster opportunity, reduce wealth inequality, and promote economic growth. The EVP oversees program development, research integration, fundraising strategy, and external stakeholder engagement while ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and long-term strategic priorities.


Responsibilities


1. Strategic Leadership & Pillar Management

  • Lead and manage the Finance pillar staff of approximately 20, setting strategic direction, priorities, and performance goals.
  • Oversee a portfolio of programs focused on advancing solutions that encourage long-term saving and investment; support the deployment of capital to underserved people, places, and projects, and conduct applied research projects to foster economic mobility through new business models, policy recommendations, capital structures, and financial technologies.
  • Ensure strong cross-functional collaboration and operational excellence across teams.

 

2. Program Development & Implementation

  • Devise the launch, integration, and scaling of program initiatives 
  • Recruit, hire, and manage senior program leadership; build high-performing teams to execute program deliverables.
  • Ensure successful completion of grant-funded deliverables and secure new funding to sustain and expand initiatives.


3. Research Integration & Thought Leadership

  • Oversee the finance research team to produce high-quality, policy-relevant research.
  • Lead the integration of research functions into programmatic strategy to enhance impact and credibility.
  • Leverage research insights in engagement with current and prospective funders, policymakers, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization as a subject matter expert in finance, financial markets, capital access, inclusive wealth building, and regulatory policy.


4. Fundraising & External Relations

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with institutional funders, philanthropists, corporate leaders, and policymakers.
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to support pillar initiatives and new ventures.
  • Secure major philanthropic and institutional investments to scale impact-driven initiatives.


5. Executive Leadership & Special Initiatives

  • Serve in senior leadership roles for new strategic initiatives, including large-scale alliances or coalitions focused on economic mobility, access to capital, and inclusive wealth building.
  • Design and implement strategies to scale new platforms and partnerships.
  • Work closely with executive leadership and key stakeholders to advance mission-driven priorities.
  • Duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of progressively senior experience in finance, economics, financial services, public policy, research institutions, or related fields.
  • Deep knowledge of finance, including global and domestic financial markets and institutions, capital formation, and financial regulatory policy.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and managing high-performing teams.
  • Proven track record of securing significant philanthropic, institutional, or corporate funding.
  • Strong executive presence with experience engaging senior-level stakeholders, including investors, policymakers, regulators, and philanthropic leaders.


Education

  • Graduate degree required.
  • Preferred fields of study include finance, economics, business, law, or public policy.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements


This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Washington, DC office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. This schedule is subject to change at the Institute’s sole discretion. This position will need to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
