Position Summary

As language translators in the sky, Airborne Cryptologic Linguist personnel constantly monitor the radio frequency spectrum and translate, evaluate and report on messages and other in-flight intelligence received in foreign languages.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Process, exploit, analyze and disseminate signal intelligence information
  • Operate airborne signals intelligence systems and mission equipment
  • Translate, evaluate and report on assigned communications
  • Analyze traffic for reportable significance
  • Receive, transmit and relay encoded and decoded messages

Qualifications

This job requires military service with a contract as a commissioned officer in the Air Force. The application is for a specific position within the Air Force.

To be considered you must meet the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Physical qualification for aircrew duty
  • Height not less than 59 inches or more than 77 inches
  • No record or history of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) or pain
  • ASVAB score of 72 on General
  • Minimum score of 110 on Defense Language Aptitude Battery or demonstrated proficiency in a DoD-trained designated acquisition language with an L2/R2 or better on the Defense Language Proficiency Test or Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) equivalent for which accession was approved by AF Career Field Manager.
  • Eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance

Training:

  • Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX; followed by Technical

Training Related Civilian Careers:

  • Interpreters and Translators
