Miles & Stockbridge is seeking an experienced Legal Practice Assistant (LPA) in our Baltimore, MD office to support our Litigation Practice Group. This role involves supporting litigation matters, including case management, court filings, and discovery, as well as providing general administrative support to attorneys. This position will provide high level support to attorneys with traditional law practices and requires an in-office presence. Legal Practice Assistant Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update attorney calendars, including scheduling meetings, court dates, and client appointments as requested.
- Handling incoming calls and direct them appropriately.
- Contact courts, chambers, other counsel as needed.
- Prepare, submit, and track attorney expenses ensuring reimbursements from proper source.
- Maintain attorney licensing current. Coordinate any new admissions and keep track of dates and bar numbers.
- Electronically file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents with various federal, state courts and other agencies (e.g., Pacer, CM/ECF, MDEC, AAA, etc.).
- Draft basic, proofread, and format legal documents, including correspondence, subpoenas, notices, and complex pleadings in accordance with court rules. As needed, add TOCs and/or TOAs.
- Maintain and organize document management system.
- Sort, scan, and distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail and packages.
- Aid in the discovery process by organizing, Bates-stamping, and preparing documents for production, exhibits for depositions, etc.
- Schedule and manage any depositions we are noting and ensure any client specific requirements are met.
- Keep track of any subpoena response documents and any deadlines.
- Assist with trial-related tasks, such as preparing exhibit binders, making technological arrangements and any other required needs.
- Open new client and matter files and communicate as needed with Conflicts team for any needed engagement letters.
- Draft and manage engagement letters.
- Review invoices to ensure all requested changes are made and are accurate before being sent to clients.
Legal Practice Assistant Qualifications:
- Must have at least 3 years as a Legal Practice Assistant in a law firm.
- Demonstrated experience using a Document Management System (DMS), as well as filing and e-filing in federal and state courts and with various administrative agencies.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidential information at all times.
- Possess ability to work closely and effectively with all levels of firm employees.
- Excellent technical skills with proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Above average oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate good judgment and flexibility.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Work well under pressure and successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The pay range for this position is $75,500 - $108,500. The pay range provided is in compliance with state, city, or local employment laws and applies to this location only. Actual pay for this position will be determined based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, current market data, and business needs.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position or sit for prolonged periods and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is frequently required to perform light work that includes lifting and moving objects up to 10 pounds.
