Facilities Manager
The Facilities Manager at MAPS plays a critical role in ensuring that the school’s campus and physical environment are safe, functional, inspiring, and well-maintained. This role combines traditional building and grounds maintenance responsibilities with meaningful engagement in the school community, including working alongside students in woodworking, project work, and outdoor learning. The Facilities Manager is an essential founding team member, actively involved in school events and daily life, and contributes to MAPS’ mission of fostering a hands-on, Reggio-inspired K–12 learning environment.
Responsibilities include:
Facilities Maintenance & Operations
- Conduct regular inspections of the school’s buildings, systems, and grounds to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Perform general repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and basic building systems.
- Respond to urgent facility needs or safety issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Plan and coordinate repair work using blueprints, manuals, or vendor consultation as needed.
- Maintain interior and exterior conditions, including flooring, walls, fixtures, doors, and paint.
- Manage cleaning and upkeep of common spaces and monitor cleanliness standards across campus.Coordinate ordering and storage of maintenance supplies, tools, and materials.
Groundskeeping & Outdoor Projects
- Oversee lawn care, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, and seasonal clean-up tasks.
- Operate landscaping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.
- Maintain trails, outdoor classrooms, gardens, and animal enclosures as part of MAPS' nature-based approach.
- Support food garden and ecological stewardship projects in collaboration with staff and students.
Student Engagement & Classroom Support
- Participate weekly in classroom-based woodworking or building projects with students.
- Teach safe tool use and real-world repair techniques to students involved in facilities-related projects.
- Invite and guide students in maintaining and tending campus spaces, offering meaningful participation in school life.
- Support students with project-based learning ideas related to construction, sustainability, or natural systems.
School Community & Culture
- Attend and contribute to all-staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Assist with logistics and physical setup for school events, performances, and community gatherings.
- Coordinate and support sports, recess games, and movement activities, if interested.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure that indoor and outdoor environments reflect MAPS' values of creativity, sustainability, and safety.
Professional Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of experience in general building maintenance or facilities management.
- Knowledge and experience with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and landscaping.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Willingness and ability to work directly with children in a school setting.
Preferred:
- Experience in a school, nonprofit, or youth-centered setting.
- Teaching, coaching, or mentoring background.
- Familiarity with Reggio-inspired or progressive education environments.
- Interest in sustainability, woodworking, or project-based learning.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and moving through tight spaces.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
