What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Lead position at Mike's Westside Rental?
As the Yard Lead, you will oversee daily yard activities including equipment inspection, organization, and readiness for rental or delivery. Yard Lead will also supervise yard personnel, ensure equipment is properly staged, loaded, and maintained, and help deliver the safe, dependable experience that MWR customers count on.
This is a hands-on, safety-sensitive position and a vital link between the shop, drivers, sales, and customers. You will be in charge of keeping our yard operations efficient, organized, and compliant.
- Lead day-to-day yard operations including check-in/out, cleaning, fueling, staging, and loading/unloading rental equipment
- Supervise Yard Hands and Wash Bay staff to ensure productivity, safety, and quality standards are met.
- Verify all rental equipment is inspected, clean, fueled, and ready before being released or returned to inventory.
- Assist drivers and customers with safe loading/.unloading and provide friendly, professional service.
- Maintain a clean, organized yard layout and track equipment movement using Point of Rental (POR).
- Communicate repair needs, damage, or service issues to the Service Lead or the Parts & Service Operation Manager promptly.
- Partner with the Branch Manager and Safety & DOT Compliance Manager to uphold MWR safety standards.
- Train and mentor new yard employees on company procedures and safe handling practices.
- Assist with light equipment maintenance and general branch support as needed.
- Demonstrates flexibility by performing other related duties and cross-functional support as business needs dictate.
What we are looking for
- Previous experience in equipment rental, construction, or similar yard operations.
- Proven leadership or team lead experience preferred.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment, tools, and safe loading practices.
- Forklift and skid steer operations experience (certifications a plus)
- Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR
