What are the responsibilities and job description for the Directional Drill Operator position at Midwest Mole?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Operate and monitor directional drilling equipment safely and accurately in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations, while maintaining equipment, ensuring site compliance, and coordinating with crew members. Safety is the top priority at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
· Directional Drill operator in central Indiana and surrounding areas in the Midwest.
· Be willing to travel during the week when needed. Home most weekends
· Be in a local operators union or willingness to get into one
· Operation of Horizontal Directional Drill Machines
· Operate HDD Locator a plus
· Help with HDPE Fusion
· Not only run the drill but help crew when needed with other tasks
· Help Locate Utilities and know and understand what you will be crossing
· Water and sewer installation and testing a plus
· Solid understanding of trenching and excavation safety.
· Operate Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steer, Backhoe as needed.
· Other duties as requested by the supervisor.
· General Maintenance on the directional drill
· Other duties as requested by the Foreman.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experienced Horizontal Directional Drill Operator
· Fusion experience and certification for HDPE a plus
· Prior experience in underground utility work.
· Class A CDL or willingness to get one is a plus but not required.
· Strong independent work ethic with ability to work within a team.
· Clear and concise communications.
· Strong sense of urgency, focusing on time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Approximately 100% of the position will work from the field.
· Approximately 100% of the position will require travel.
· Some lifting up to 20lbs. is required.
