Duties and Responsibilities

The Administrator is required to effectively manage, direct and administer all departments of the facility in accordance with company policies and procedures, standards of practice for long-term care administrators and governmental regulations so as to maintain quality care for all residents.

The following is a general list of key job duties and responsibilities in your position. The list is not to be considered inclusive and you will be required to perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by an authorized supervisor.

Review and monitor compliance with policies pertaining to corporate compliance, total patient care, personnel, medical staff, financial status, public relations and maintenance of building and grounds under broad directives from the Governing Board. Explain policies to staff and other concerned parties.

Periodically review policies and discuss and evaluate any necessary changes with personnel responsible. Evaluate and monitor job descriptions and policy and procedure manuals for all departments with assistance from Department Director and Human Resources office.

Review and monitor compliance of facility with national, state and local standards.

Selects competent personnel to supervise activities of departments.

Meet with department heads at regular intervals.

Conduct in-service and supervisory training meetings. Receives and analyzes information from department heads on matters pertaining to department operation and external relationships.

Review and monitor competence of work force.

Regularly checks financial status of nursing facility. Maintains efficient accounting system to meet needs of facility. Follows budgets and recommends changes in fee schedules to ensure coverage of cost and operation.

Monitors and ensures collection of accounts receivable

Maintains liaison with community hospitals and other health facilities in the community and coordinated with their services through working and transfer agreements.

Represents facility in dealings with outside agencies, including governmental and third-party payers or sends representatives. Includes matters concerning Medicaid, etc.

Represents institution at top level meetings and institutes and participates in such meetings and institutes. Reviews physical condition of nursing home. Directs repairs within the financial capabilities of the institution. Authorizes purchases of equipment and supplies within operating guidelines.

Review and monitor compliance with personnel policies and department policies and procedures. Includes maintenance of good personnel relations and employee morale.

  • Regular worksite attendance.
  • Must have a valid state administrator license that is in good standing with the State.
  • If required to operate a motor vehicle for business purposes, must successfully complete the requirements contained in Company’s Motor Vehicles policy.
  • Must have sufficient previous experience in clinical health care including direct experience in quality assurance.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of quality assessment and assurance procedures.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
  • If required to operate a motor vehicle for business purposes, must successfully complete the requirements contained in Company’s Motor Vehicles policy.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with, or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Twisting, Bending, Crawling, Squatting, Kneeling, Crouching, Climbing and Balancing may be required.
  • Employees may be required to operate and automobile and various games.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and hostile people within the Facility.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
