As an ISI Underwriter, you’ll take the lead in shaping a high‑performing book of business—driving profitable growth, elevating broker relationships, and showcasing MEC’s industry‑leading value. You’ll blend analytical precision with strategic decision‑making, ensuring every account reflects strong underwriting discipline and delivers exceptional results.
What You’ll Do
Own Your Portfolio
- Meet or exceed new business premium and loss ratio goals.
- Meet or exceed renewal account retention, premium and loss ratio goals.
- Partner closely with Business Development on new account opportunities.
- Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills to achieve account-level goals.
- Apply deep expertise in primary and excess workers’ comp, risk analysis, actuarial concepts, and policy structure.
- Adhere to MEC Underwriting guidelines and authority levels with consistency and confidence.
- Appropriately manage assigned book of business via thorough analysis of risk, establishment of appropriate terms, and appropriate documentation to support analysis and terms.
- Evaluate guaranteed cost exposures and submit clear, strategic referrals when needed.
- Compliance
- Workflow and process optimization
- Project participation and user testing
- Deliver top‑tier service to brokers—responsive, informed, and proactive.
- Meet or exceed service standards to our broker partners regarding submission management, quote due dates, responsiveness to communications, and addressing questions / requests.
- Strengthen broker partnerships to enhance new and renewal opportunities.
- Identify services that drive value for clients.
- Join client calls to articulate MEC’s differentiators and impact.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound business decisions.
- Effective written, oral, and listening communication skills that will contribute to the highest quality of service to business partners and co-workers.

Formal Education & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in Insurance or Business.
- 5 years workers’ compensation insurance experience.
- Technically competent with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Operational systems.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound business decisions.
- Effective written, oral, and listening communication skills that will contribute to the highest quality of service to business partners and co-workers.
- Ability to build trust and gain credibility with business partners and co-workers.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and confident in all situations.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
- Advanced time management and follow-through skills.
- Office / desk environment.
- Travel 10% or less.
