Des Moines Asphalt and Paving, a CRH company, has been leading the asphalt industry in Central Iowa for over forty-five years. We have completed a wide variety of projects including highway and street paving, commercial paving projects, parking lot construction, custom asphalt milling, and chip sealing.
- Promotes safe operating practices through employee engagement to identify, report and correct safety concerns.
- Manages and coordinates initial and continued training of company drivers. Conduct annual road tests of company drivers.
- Review and coach drivers on FMCSA rules and regulations, safety scores and DOT inspections.
- Maintain updated knowledge on industry changes
- Operates truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area and at various job sites to deliver materials. Trucks driven include but are not limited to: belly dumps, dump truck and semi-tractor truck with attached trailers.
- Inspect truck and trailer as required at the start and end of each workday, completing the Driver Check-off Sheet which indicates that all systems are functioning properly.
- Cleans truck by washing the outside and keeping the inside cab clean. Clean dump box using water spray gun to clean out any remaining materials.
- Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources.
- Accurate logging of deliveries required as well as maintain required daily vehicle logs.
- Must meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Department of Transportation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Minimum or high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- One to three years’ related experience required. Three to five years of driver training related experience is preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license (Class A CDL) with air brakes and combination vehicle endorsement.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manuals.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.

- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.

- Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.

- Ability to read, comprehend and provide guidance on policies instructions, plant site maps, etc.
- Must be proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel and other required computer programs.
Physical Requirements
- Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, and sit as well as occasionally required to stand, reach use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Able to climb ladders and to work at heights as well as work in tight quarters.
