What are the responsibilities and job description for the CT Technologist position at Midwest Cardiovascular Institute?
NATURE OF DUTIES:
The nature of the job is to provide health care services and perform duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures related to C.T. for the diagnosis and treatment of humans for the interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Skillfully performs vascular and non-vascular CT exams as ordered by physicians, in a friendly and compassionate manner.
2.Informs patient of the test to be performed, reviews patient chart for orders, medical necessity and identifying information, and records all of the information on the appropriate worksheet.
3. Archives images on the PACS and assists physicians in the review of images.
4. Escorts patients to the next station, for example, next testing area, review with physician, or check-out.
5. Operates radiation-producing equipment to successfully perform procedures.
6. Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination.
7. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
8. Evaluates images and data for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded.
9. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
10. Understands methods and is capable of performing venipuncture and initiates basic life support action when necessary.
11. Assist in staffing other clinics and departments when needed.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of CIS and in concordence with its patient philosophy.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
1. Keeps work area neat and organized. Reports safety issues to team leader immediately.
2. Works efficiently and manages time wisely. Assist other employees when all duties are complete.
3. Communicates any problems, difficulties or concerns regarding job duties to the team leader.
4. Performs all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.
5. Meets all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.
6. Represents CIS in a professional manner at all times. Demonstrates acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff (“internal customers”) and “external customers” (patients, family members, insurance companies, home health etc.) on a professional level at all times. Exhibits good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times.
7. Exhibits whenever possible a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees in order to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position. While a perfect harmonious relationship with all employees is sometimes not achievable, not more than an occasional complaint should be received by the team leader about the incumbent of this position.
8. The employee shall work and relate cooperatively with all other employees (internal customers) of CIS to assure optimum care for the patients of CIS and to achieve standards of care set forth by the CIS medical staff.
9. Adheres to the CIS Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties. Uses best efforts to maintain compliance by following the CIS Corporate Compliance Plan, attending CIS compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.
10. Performs accurate and complete documentation in the patient’s medical record, when applicable. This includes documentation in both the paper record and the electronic medical record (EMR).
11. Work with the electronic medical record (EMR) staff to maintain quality and work towards future EMR development.
12. Maintains patient confidentiality according to the HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
13. Adheres to the CIS Personnel Policies Manual and its contents.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
1. Licensed by the IL State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners.
2. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and/or Registered in Computed Tomography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Actively pursuing continuing education requirements
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification require.
4. Good Communication skills.
