Manual Machinist
Manual Machinist Job Responsibilities:
Sets up and operates conventional machine tool equipment to perform various machine functions to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts to customer specifications.
Essential Job Functions:
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Uses full range of precision measuring and gaging tools to perform inspection before start of job.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and makes required adjustments.
- Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly and verifies dimensions and alignment.
- Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
- Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers to resolve machining or assembly issues.
Essential knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
- Must be able to read, write, comprehend the English language
- Must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical and procedure manuals, technical drawings, and engineering prints
- Must be able to comprehend and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Must be able to apply common sense to deal with problems and variables where only limited standardization exists
- Must have ability to work with the mathematical fundamentals of plane, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Must be able to use precision measuring devices; dividers and calipers, vernier and dial calipers, micrometers, etc.
- Must provide own tools
- Must be capable of standing/walking, repetitive use of hands, fingers, and arms for 8 hours
- Must be capable of regularly lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to tolerate heat and working in an industrial environment
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Mimimum 3 years experience
- Must have some of own tools
Job Type: Full-time
