ABOUT THE JOB


The Teacher provides students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the assigned subject area to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The Teacher enables students to develop competencies and skills to be successful. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university


Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)


Experience in student teaching, internship, fieldwork, observation, and all other placements required by universities or state-approved programs for certification.


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS - EXPERIENCE


A good candidate for this position will possess knowledge of assigned subject area; curriculum and instruction strategies; relevant technology; and state, MISD, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers; skills in communication; organization; problem-solving; critical thinking; and flexibility; and ability to present information accurately and clearly; manage multiple priorities and projects; and instruct students and manage their behavior.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


The Teacher will develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of MISD’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation; prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differentiation; present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the learning styles, interests, and needs of the students assigned; conduct an assessment of student progress and use results to plan instructional activities; work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP); work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to MISD requirements; provide and seek the assistance of MISD specialists as recommended to plan for instruction; help students analyze and improve study methods and habits; conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing; and provide and seek assistance for students who are consistently performing below grade level. 


The Teacher will assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. 


The Teacher will be a positive role model for students, and support the mission of MISD; create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students; manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook; and take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 


The Teacher will assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 


The Teacher will set and maintain standards of classroom behavior; establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers; communicate student strengths and challenges to parents according to campus/district guidelines; maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.


The Teacher will participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills; compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required according to campus/district deadlines established; attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required; demonstrate regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning; Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; and perform other duties as assigned.

Use of the equipment may be required: Use of standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.


The job may require mental/physical demands and consideration of environmental factors: Prolonged standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching; occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 20 pounds); may work prolonged or irregular hours; stressful decision-making moments; frequent communication with other employees and parents; work with frequent interruptions; and maintain emotional control under stress.


This job is expected to be mostly on-site but comes with the possibility to work remotely (from home) a few days per week as determined by your supervisor. Employees who work remotely are expected to follow policies (attendance, social media, confidentiality, data protection, code of conduct) in addition to protecting passwords and following data encryption protection standards and settings while working remotely as expected at the worksite

Salary : $60,000 - $74,350
