POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE The coordinator of advanced academics will provide direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of K - 12 Advanced Academics services in the district. The coordinator will develop, implement, support, monitor and provide leadership for district-wide initiatives that prepare students for college and career readiness. The coordinator will collaborate with content coordinators, teachers, and administrators in developing and delivering professional development that meets campus and district goals and will ensure the district meets the standards of the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted & Talented Students. |

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS GT Identification 1. Implement procedures and coordinate the process to identify gifted and talented students at all grade levels district wide, including review of student data and testing of students. 2. Oversees the selection, scheduling, and assessments of gifted and talented learners. 3. Ensure alignment of assessment procedures with local, state, and federal guidelines. 4. Ensure alignment with test publisher protocols. 5. Interprets and communicates the results of tests to teachers, parents, and other district personnel. 6. Administers the appropriate assessment(s) to be used as part of the criteria for entrance into the Gifted and Talented program |

7. Manage multiple software applications that support testing, test proctors, and administrators. 8. Assists in the preparation of testing data in appropriate formats for stakeholder groups including but not limited to parents, teachers, and administrators. Instructional Management 9. Coordinate annual PSAT and SAT preparation programs 10. Collaborate with content coordinators to develop resources and training for student success with college readiness tests (i.e. SAT/PSAT, ACT, AP practice) 11. Support campuses in implementation of academic competitions including but not limited to UIL Academics, Destination Imagination, Academic Decathlon, etc. 12. Guide the implementation and evaluation of all G/T & Advanced Academic Services including but not limited to K-12 G/T options, AVID, Project THINK/QUEST (K-1), GEM 2.0, etc. 13. Provide ongoing training and support to campus administrators and other staff in the development of a campus Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics and AVID plan that meets with fidelity national, state, and local requirements and that establishes ongoing improvement for student growth on the campuses. 14. Establish and coordinate Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics and AVID teams to plan and coordinate vertical and horizontal alignment with all campus staff members to ensure the transition from campus to campus and from elementary to secondary services. 15. Observe and provide research-based instructional approaches and collaborate with teachers on the best practices to meet student needs for advanced programming. 16. Disaggregate and analyze data using available programs. 17. Research and provide information and data on curriculum questions, instructional problems and materials. 18. Observe, provide ongoing support, and coach instructional staff in differentiation as well as professional learning. 19. Provide compliance as well as innovative support for campuses. 20. Prepare and implement program reviews and evaluations. 21. Provide on-going professional development dependent upon observed instructional needs through monthly campus Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics collaborative groups. 22. Coordinate ongoing review and revision of Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics curricular scope and sequence and pacing guide documents. 23. Mentor new Gifted & Talented/Advanced Academics teachers in classroom procedures and content development. 24. Maintain open and continued communication with leaders and teachers for a united approach to curriculum methods and content. 25. Create professional development aligned to the TEKS, goals, and resources implemented by the district as needed. 26. Assist in the strategizing, planning, evaluation, management, development, and improvement of curriculum and instructional activities and programs with the classroom teachers. 27. Guide teams through data analysis to adjust first-time instruction and/or to focus on re-teaching and/or enrichment. 28. Facilitate the use of district resources to their fullest capacity: lesson planning, resource selection, assessments, data digging, and data interpretations for instructional decisions. 29. Assist in conducting research studies related to the instructional program and other areas of student activities and achievement. 30. Serve as a communication liaison between teachers, campus administration, and district curriculum staff so that information is disseminated in an accurate and effective way. 31. Coordinate the review and selection of program materials as appropriate. 32. Assist leaders and teachers by doing instructional walks and offering feedback for successfully implementing the MISD curriculum. 33. Assist in the professional development of teachers through the sharing of best practices and observing successful teaching techniques either within MISD or other sources. 34.
