Position Summary
The Referral Coordinator maintains office operations by following established policies and procedures and contributes to the team effort by accomplishing results as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under general supervision:
Complete referrals and diagnostic imaging orders in electronic medical records according to established procedures as requested by patients and approved by providers. Assist patients with making referral appointments.
Complete and fax orders for diagnostic and routine testing as requested by the provider(s).
Perform pre-certification and prior authorizations as needed.
Track referral and imaging orders and comment over its status.
Follow up to obtain the referral or imaging reports in a timely manner.
Answer telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner within minimum rings. Create telephone encounters for all patient messages. Distribute as appropriate based on office protocols.
Optimize patient satisfaction by obtaining pre-authorizations and scheduling appointments for patients in accordance with established procedures and within appropriate time frames.
Manage assigned documents in electronic medical records. Attach each document to the appropriate patient record, name the document according to the established naming protocol and forward to the appropriate staff person to review and address.
Manage requests for medical records following HIPAA compliant procedures.
Monitor office supplies. Notify the Manager of any supplies to be ordered.
Help patients in distress by responding appropriately to emergencies.
Perform any related tasks as delegated by the manager including referral appointment monitoring, imaging order monitoring, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Moderate computer skills
1 year experience in an administrative healthcare capacity
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
1 year ambulatory office based physician practice, preferably in primary care
1 year experience with electronic medical records
