Paraprofessional - General Education


Position Summary:

The Elementary Technology Paraprofessional is responsible for providing direct, age-appropriate instruction to K–5 students to help them master state and national educational technology standards (such as basic keyboarding, digital citizenship, media literacy, and introductory computer science concepts). Working under the general supervision of a licensed administrator or certified teacher, this role manages the elementary computer lab or media center technology space, supports classroom teachers with technology integration, and ensures students learn to use digital tools safely, responsibly, and effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational technology tools and digital learning platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively with elementary-aged students.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Essential Functions:

  • Direct Student Instruction & Standards Delivery

    • Deliver Technology Curriculum: Lead scheduled lab classes to teach elementary technology standards, including keyboarding efficiency, mouse/trackpad mechanics, and fundamental software navigation.

    • Digital Citizenship Education: Instruct students on online safety, cyberbullying prevention, copyright laws, and how to maintain a responsible digital footprint.

    • Introduce Computer Science & Logic: Guide students through introductory block-based coding, computational thinking exercises, and basic problem-solving algorithms.

    • Support Media & Research Skills: Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and safely cite digital information using kid-friendly search engines and databases.

    • Differentiate Instruction: Adapt lessons and pacing to accommodate diverse learning needs, English Language Learners (ELL), and students with individualized accommodation plans (IEPs).

    Lab Management & Student Supervision

    • Maintain Learning Environment: Create a welcoming, orderly, and highly organized technology lab or media center environment conducive to elementary learning.

    • Enforce Safety & Behavior Expectations: Establish and enforce classroom rules regarding the safe handling of hardware, digital behavior, and general school conduct.

    Staff Collaboration & Technical Support

    • Collaborate with Classroom Teachers: Partner with grade-level teachers and ITRT to align technology lab projects with core classroom subjects (e.g., creating a digital presentation for a science unit).

    • Resource Curation: Identify and recommend high-quality educational apps, websites, and digital tools that support the school’s curriculum.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Provide technology enrichment instruction to elementary students in a scheduled classroom setting.
  • Deliver age-appropriate lessons that promote digital literacy, keyboarding, computational thinking, creativity, and responsible digital citizenship.
  • Supervise and engage students in hands-on technology activities and projects.
  • Assist students in developing foundational technology skills, including navigating digital platforms and using educational applications.
  • Support student learning through technology-based activities that reinforce classroom instruction and division learning goals.
  • Prepare instructional materials, technology resources, and learning activities for student use.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and effective technology learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback regarding participation and skill development.
  • Encourage collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and creativity among students.
  • Maintain student behavior expectations consistent with school and division policies.
  • Assist with the organization, care, and basic maintenance of classroom technology equipment used by students.
  • Promote safe, ethical, and responsible use of technology resources.
  • Participate in school activities, professional development, and division initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Education, Educational Technology, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational setting preferred.
  • Experience using instructional technology and educational software preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout a classroom setting for extended periods.
  • Ability to supervise and actively engage students in instructional activities.
  • Ability to lift and move classroom technology equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computers, tablets, and instructional technology devices.
  • Visual acuity necessary to monitor student activities and instructional materials.


Supervision Exercised:

None. This position does not supervise employees but is responsible for the supervision and safety of students during instructional activities.
