Shipping/Receiving Clerk
Burton, MI Monday – Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm
Mid-States Bolt & Screw, a trusted local fastener distributor, is seeking a departmental Shipping/Receiving Clerk to support our warehouse operations! Based in our Burton, MI location.
Job Summary
The Shipping/Receiving Clerk is responsible for verifying, documenting, and processing incoming and outgoing shipments. This role prepares materials for stocking or shipment, verifies product against orders and shipping documents, coordinates transportation, and maintains accurate records. The role requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced warehouse and fastener distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving & Inventory
- Examine incoming shipments and compare contents with orders, invoices, or other records to verify accuracy.
- Inspect merchandise or material for damage, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
- Receive goods returned and process them as required.
- Record incoming merchandise and maintain accurate receiving and inventory records.
- Prepare incoming items for stocking and arrange for the storage or delivery of products.
- Measure, weigh, sort, count, package, and wrap products or materials as required.
- Deliver or route materials to departments using appropriate work devices, such as hand trucks or sorting bins.
- Requisition and maintain an adequate supply of shipping and packaging materials.
Shipping & Order Fulfillment
- Examine outgoing shipments and compare contents with pick tickets, invoices, orders, or other records to verify accuracy.
- Prepare shipping documents, including bills of lading and shipping orders, as required.
- Determine appropriate shipping methods using established shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Record shipment information, including weights and charges, for accurate recordkeeping.
- Prepare and affix shipping labels accurately.
- Package goods for shipment using appropriate methods, including O/D and Freight Shipments.
- Schedule printed orders by date and monitor transfers to ensure timely processing.
- Monitor pick-and-hold orders, CODs, and dated orders.
- Coordinate special shipping instructions and communicate with carrier representatives regarding shipping and delivery arrangements.
- Support final shipment verification and order confirmation, including billing procedures when applicable.
Customer Service & Problem Resolution
- Communicate with internal departments, customers, carriers, and other representatives regarding shipping and receiving activities.
- Investigate and help resolve issues involving damages, shortages, discrepancies, and nonconformance to specifications.
- Obtain information from individuals as needed to complete shipping and receiving activities accurately.
- Provide service-oriented support to internal and external customers.
Qualifications
Required
Required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- At least 1 year of warehouse experience; 2 years of warehouse experience preferred.
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes and inventory control principles.
- Ability to accurately measure, weigh, count, identify, and verify products and materials.
- Basic computer skills and ability to navigate computer systems and enter, access, and retrieve data.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively by phone, in person, and in writing.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical work throughout the shift.
- Ability to drive forklift.
Preferred
- Knowledge of fasteners and/or MRO products.
- Knowledge of warehouse layout and product locations.
- Experience with Prophet 21.
- Experience with freight shipments.
