Summary / Objective
The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall condition of the facility’s buildings and grounds. This role ensures all indoor and outdoor areas are kept to the highest standards, creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for employees, visitors, and customers. Responsibilities include performing sanitation and upkeep tasks, maintaining exterior grounds, coordinating facility maintenance, and addressing routine and special projects. This position plays a vital role in exceeding customer expectations for quality, safety, and presentation by supporting operational efficiency and meeting compliance requirements.
- Maintain all building interiors, exteriors, and surrounding grounds, including weed eating and applying weed killer along building perimeters, rail tracks, and fencing.
- Remove debris, spiderwebs, bird nests, and other hazards to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Perform routine trash removal from all areas of the facility, including production, support spaces, offices, docks, and exterior walkways
- Clean and maintain floors, work areas, and high-touch surfaces using appropriate tools and equipment such as blowers, vacuums (including backpack vacuums), mops, brooms, dusters, sweepers, dry-ice blaster, and other cleaning devices.
- Operate waste-handling equipment such as trash dump hoppers and trash compactors.
- Complete cleaning orders at defined intervals in accordance with compliance guidelines, including wash, rinse, and sanitizing procedures
- Conduct visual inspections of assigned areas during routine duties and promptly report any potential safety or compliance concerns to a supervisor and/or manager.
- Complete all assigned tasks and related checklists accurately, maintaining required records and documentation.
- Coordinate with the Compliance Manager for assistance, supplies, and equipment needed for repairs, special projects, or other facility activities.
- Assist with general upkeep of building interiors, exteriors, and grounds to maintain a clean, safe, and functional facility.
- Respond to urgent cleaning or grounds needs as directed.
Essential Functions:
The following essential job functions are required for a Facilities Technician:
- Read, follow, and accurately complete checklists, sanitation logs, and other documents that define work requirements.
- Safely operate cleaning equipment such as blowers, vacuums, mops, and sweepers.
- Operate lawn care and grounds maintenance equipment, including weed eaters and sprayers.
- Operate a forklift when trained and authorized, following all safety requirements.
- Safely operate waste-handling equipment such as trash dump hoppers and trash compactors when trained and authorized.
- Adhere to PPE requirements and compliance rules when handling cleaning agents, chemicals, or performing specialized tasks.
PPE requirements and Safety rules:
- Follow all safety regulations, including using PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, goggles, masks, and hearing protection when required.
- Eye and hearing protection are required everywhere in the facilities.
- Chemical-resistant gloves are required when using cleaning agents, sanitizing chemicals, or performing other chemical-handling tasks.
- Safety-toed shoes or boots are required throughout the facility.
- Cut-resistant gloves/sleeves are required when using knives.
- Maximum single-person lift is 80 lbs.; heavier items require assistance or mechanical aids.
- Fall protection measures must be used when working at heights.
- Earbuds, headphones, or other music-playing devices may not be used in the facility except in breakrooms or the smoking area.
- Employees must know and follow lockout/tagout requirements when there is potential for exposure to hazardous energy.
- Each machine is equipped with multiple safety switches and devices. Although the features are not the same for each machine, they all have safety devices in place to protect employees from injury. These include pressure-sensitive mats, light curtains, pull cords, and emergency stop buttons. The Facility Hygiene Technician must know where these devices are located and how they operate.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Qualifications and Competencies:
- Ability to read, understand, and complete work instructions and inspection checklists.
- Ability to stand on the feet for multiple hours at a time.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Physical ability to lift/move up to 80 lbs. and work at varying heights.
- Willingness to learn and operate additional equipment, including forklifts, as needed.
- Ability to complete online training.
- Strong attention to detail in sanitation and safety.
- Commitment to compliance protocols and operational standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

This position involves indoor and outdoor work in a manufacturing facility and on facility grounds, often in various weather conditions. Work may include exposure to wet and/or humid areas, moving mechanical parts, extreme hot or cold temperatures, high or elevated locations, fumes or airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, grounds maintenance products, and other chemical exposures. The noise level is typically loud, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is always required.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with shifts that may vary between 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with the possibility of overtime that could include weekends, based on organizational needs.
