Primary Work Location: Le Mars
Eligible for Benefits: Yes. 1020.
Work Hours: M/T: 7:00-3:30, W/TH: 7:00-3:15, F: 7:00-1:30; 40 hours per week for approximately 40 weeks per year. 31.25 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks per year.
Hours are subject to change based on financial and program requirements.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, push and pull regularly.
- Lift up to 15 pounds often; lift up to 35 pounds occasionally; lift over 35 pounds rarely.
Qualifications:
- Cooking knowledge and experience required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be knowledgeable of Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards, Iowa Licensing Regulations and programs policies/procedures.
- Able to relate to low resource preschool children, families and staff in a positive manner.
- Establish and maintain nutritionally balanced meals in a safe and sanitary environment ensuring that the dietary needs of the children are met in compliance with State of Iowa Licensing, HS/EHS and CACFP rules and regulations.
- Cook and serve healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack each day.
- Responsible for grocery shopping, ordering food and supplies in a timely manner and with consideration of cost.
- Complete required reports, production records and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
- Clean kitchen before and after meals, including dishes.
- Follow and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning lists.
- Clean and set up tables in the classroom to prepare for meals.
- Eat breakfast and lunch with the children in a family style setting.
- Collaborate with Center Team to conduct classroom food experiences and to integrate food and nutrition into classroom activities.
- Collaborate with Center Team to provide information to families about nutrition, food preparation and using the eating experience to teach other skills to children.
- Work without direct supervision.
- Follow HS/EHS policies and procedures.
- Responsible for contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
- Be willing and able to substitute/give breaks in the classroom.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Conditions of Employment:
- Submit to the Department of Human Services Criminal History and a Request for Child Abuse Information Records Check prior to employment and every two (2) years thereafter.
- Submit to FBI National Fingerprint Criminal History Check prior to hire and every four (4) years thereafter.
- Submit to a Motor Vehicle Records check prior to employment and every year thereafter.
- Complete a DHS Physical Exam prior to employment and every 3 years.
- Complete a Tuberculosis Screening or Assessment prior to employment.
- Complete mandatory reporter training within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
- Adhere to HS/EHS Standards of Conduct.
- Sign and maintain required confidentiality statement.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation.
