Duties
- Operate hydrovac trucks equipped with high-pressure water systems and vacuum equipment to excavate soil around utilities, pipelines, and construction zones
- Conduct pre-operation inspections of all equipment, ensuring mechanical integrity and safety compliance
- Coordinate with project managers and site supervisors to plan excavation tasks and ensure adherence to project specifications
- Use auxiliary heavy machinery such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, and dump trucks as needed for site preparation and support
- Maintain accurate logs of work performed, including excavation depths, locations, and safety checks
- Follow all safety protocols related to heavy equipment operation, construction sites, and transportation regulations
- Assist with setup and breakdown of work zones, including traffic control measures when necessary
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge of hydrovac systems and related heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, horizontal drilling units, tankers, and paving machinery
- Proven experience operating commercial vehicles with a CDL license in construction or industrial environments
- Skilled in operating heavy equipment like Caterpillar machinery and other construction tools safely and efficiently
- Knowledge of construction site safety standards and procedures for excavation work
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues quickly to minimize downtime during operations
- Familiarity with soil types, underground utilities locating techniques, and excavation best practices
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and site personnel
