About the role
As the Senior Integration & Applications Developer you will design, build, support, and optimize integrations and internal applications that power our logistics operations. You’ll work cross-functionally with operations, carriers, partners, and other IT teams to ensure reliable, secure, and maintainable data exchange and application services.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design, development, deployment, and maintenance of EDI integrations (X12, EDIFACT, or equivalent) with carriers, brokers, suppliers, and customers.
- Develop and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, views and ETL processes in Microsoft SQL Server to support operational and reporting needs.
- Build, configure, and maintain Altova tools (MapForce, XMLSpy, StyleVision, or others) for XML/JSON/data mapping, transformation, and validation.
- Create and maintain web-based applications and APIs using modern web technologies (e.g., .NET/.NET Core, ASP.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, RESTful services).
- Troubleshoot and resolve production integration and application issues, including debugging EDI transactions, mapping errors, and database performance problems.
- Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting for integrations and services; ensure high availability and performance.
- Work with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications and robust solutions.
- Share best practices, and contribute to architecture and process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with security, data privacy, and industry standards (e.g., secure transport, encryption, access controls).
Required qualifications
- Minimum 15 years professional experience in the logistics, transportation, or warehousing industry with hands-on technical roles.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, performance tuning, indexing, backup/restore, SSIS or equivalent ETL).
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting EDI integrations (X12, EDIFACT, or industry-specific formats) across multiple partners.
- Practical experience with Altova products (MapForce, XMLSpy, etc.) for data mapping and transformation.
- Solid web application and API development skills (server-side frameworks such as .NET/.NET Core, and front-end JavaScript/TypeScript experience).
- Familiarity with integration patterns, messaging (MQ, AS2, SFTP), and common transport methods for EDI/data exchange.
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills; ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Located near Itasca, IL or willing to commute to the Itasca area (on-site).
Preferred / nice-to-have
- Familiarity with XML, JSON schema design and validation.
- Hands-on experience with Altova Server or other automated mapping deployment tools.
- Background in TMS/WMS systems, EDI VANs, and specifically Cargowise
