Full-Time Faculty, School of Science

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Mid-America Christian University seeks a full-time on-campus faculty member with a passion for teaching, and a desire to join faculty and staff to instruct undergraduate courses in Genetics, Cell Biology, and other related science subjects. The applicant must have a steadfast Christian background.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide quality instruction and feedback for students in assigned course(s) and laboratory section(s)

• Be available for scheduled office hours and appointments to provide support for student learning
• Follow the course syllabus which is based on the master syllabus of the course, aligned to student outcomes of the program, and approved by the Chair or Director
• Participate in University Outcomes Assessment process
• Communicate with the Chair or Supervising Faculty on a regular basis, and work with Lab Manager to schedule any missed lab assignments for students with an excused absence 
• Continuously maintain proficiency in content area, including laboratory procedures 
• Maintain appropriate student and administrative records for classroom and laboratory setting
• Support lab personnel with preparation, clean-up, maintenance of lab equipment, supplies, and cadaver specimens 
• Respond to students, administrators, faculty, and staff in a timely manner
• Support the mission and goals of Mid- America Christian University

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Must possess excellent communication, both oral and written, and organizational skills necessary for the position
• Must possess excellent communication skills to work effectively with individuals and groups
• Must be flexible in scheduling, which may include days, nights, and weekends
• Must demonstrate effective teaching skills using various delivery formats and value teaching students and wish to contribute fully to the life and mission of the University

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

M.S. required with minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in subject content. Prefer applicants with or near completion of a doctorate (Ph.D.) in appropriate field.  Faculty must be experienced in and demonstrate strong teaching skills. Prefer applicant with previous teaching experience at the university level.  Appropriate coursework and knowledge of subject material is a necessity for this position. Faculty members at MACU also serve as a spiritual mentor and are expected to possess an active and mature Christian faith and be involved in a local church.  

COMPUTER SKILLS:

• Experience with interactive computer programs (e.g. Zoom)
• Experience with D2L, Canvas, or Blackboard- MACU utilizes Canvas  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Operate a computer (macOS, Windows etc.) with a keyboard, pointing device, webcam, and speakers
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds (~11 kilograms)

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

On-campus classroom and laboratory setting. May be exposed to hazardous materials.
