Summary:
Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO&I) is seeking a highly skilled Datacenter Power Infrastructure Delivery Program Manager to support datacenter development across the Americas region. This remote role is responsible for the end-to-end facilitation and delivery of Microsoft's industry-leading datacenter power infrastructure, spanning pre-programming through design development, construction, and operational turnover. The ideal candidate will oversee multiple concurrent distribution, substation, and transmission projects while maintaining alignment with defined scopes, schedules, and budgets. This position requires close collaboration with Power Utility providers, internal Microsoft stakeholder groups, and specialized outside vendors, demanding exceptional project management, communication, and leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will be methodical, detail-oriented, and possess a strong work ethic, integrity, and an even temperament in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Monthly travel to California is required.
Job Responsibilities:
Facilitate and deliver datacenter power infrastructure projects from pre-programming through design development, construction, and turnover to Operations, including development of new technology and advanced concepts
Serve as the primary utility point-of-contact for design and construction, coordinating weekly design and construction meetings, managing routing approvals, overseeing documentation, and issuing weekly scope and schedule reports
Ensure cross-functional scope alignment, track funding and purchase orders, build budgets and estimates, and manage risks and approvals in collaboration with internal teams
Own and maintain the Microsoft Project schedule by defining critical path and predecessors, updating progress regularly, verifying equipment delivery dates, and issuing weekly schedule and risk reports with mitigation strategies
Track and report all major power utility milestones across contracting, permitting, design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and ready-for-service completion
Lead and coordinate multiple teams of engineers and construction project managers in advanced engineering and operational processes related to large datacenter environments
Engage with key stakeholder groups within Microsoft, utility providers, and outside vendors specializing in datacenter engineering, construction, and operations
Support utility construction and maintenance activities related to substations, transmission lines, and natural gas infrastructure
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation design and/or delivery, consulting engineering, or construction of substations
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a lead engineer, design manager, or project manager on transmission or substation projects
Minimum of 5 years of experience with datacenter engineering or construction (preferred)
Demonstrated experience with utility construction and maintenance of substations, transmission lines, and natural gas infrastructure
Background in construction project management with a utility industry focus
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience of 5 or more years in substation design and/or delivery
Electrical Engineer or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus
Must be able to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire and every two years thereafter
Must be able to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements
Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent complex infrastructure projects
Deep proficiency in transmission and substation design and construction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams
Experience with Bluebeam for document management and markup workflows
Experience with Primavera P6 for schedule development and management (preferred)
Demonstrated growth mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to lead cross-functional teams of engineers and construction managers in fast-paced environments
Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
Ability to manage budgets, track funding, and develop cost estimates for large-scale infrastructure programs

Location: Remote
Duration: 17 months
Pay Range*: $71.50 - $81 per hour
Weekly Schedule: 40 hours
Job Status: Non-Exempt
