The Microsoft Bing Web Data Platform’s Document Understanding team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build cutting-edge solutions for document understanding on a web scale.
The Web Data Platform (WDP) is the data foundation of Bing and many Microsoft experiences, powering Bing Search, ads, Copilot, Grounding API to 1P and 3P scenarios, deep research, LLM training, etc. Our mission is to deliver the world’s freshest, richest, and clean semantic understanding of the web document representation. Our work is central to understanding public web content and advancing the platform’s capabilities in tandem with state-of-the-art modeling. We are at the forefront of applying large-scale machine learning and large language models (LLMs) to understand and enrich web content, fueling critical Microsoft experiences and advancing the frontier of AI.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
- Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
- Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C , C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C , C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C , C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5 years of experience in product development.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
- Strategic thinker with a proven ability to deliver impactful, real-world results.
- Experience working on search and recommendation systems.
- Familiarity with modern machine learning techniques, architectures, and model optimization strategies.
- 4 years of experience in product development.
- Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing pipelines and data mining.
- Experience developing machine learning pipelines, including feature engineering and model optimization.
