Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a General Laborer- Tare Room, located at the Bay City Facility.
Job Summary:
Michigan Sugar Company is seeking laborers working full-time with sugarbeet samples in our Bay City Factory Tare Lab/Room on the second shift. Must be able to work flexible hours. There are 1 st and 2 nd shift opportunities. This position is responsible for processing and analyzing grower sugarbeet samples. The individual will assist in the lab and beet washer organizing and prioritizing grower sugarbeet samples. General laborers will become familiar with the NIR analysis system and beet washer operations, along with loading sugar beets onto the assembly line.

Michigan Sugar Company is headquartered in Bay City and has sugar beet processing facilities in Bay City, Caro, Croswell and Sebewaing, Michigan. Its nearly 900 grower-owners plant and harvest up to 160,000 acres of sugar beets each year in 20 Michigan counties, as well as Ontario, Canada. Those beets are sliced at the factories and turned into about 1.3 billion pounds of sugar annually.
That sugar is sold to industrial, commercial, and retail customers under the Pioneer and Big Chief brands.
Michigan Sugar Company has 930 year-round employees and an additional 1,100 seasonal workers. It is the No. 1 employer in Huron County, the No. 2 employer in Bay and Sanilac counties and the No. 3 employer in Tuscola County. The company’s annual payroll is more than $65 million and its annual local economic impact is about $500 million.

- Working with lab equipment, along with working in the warehouse
- Washing glassware, at times
- Organizing and processing sugarbeets
- Load up to 50 lb bags into a conveyor
- Be on your feet up to 12 hours per day
- Check beets for rocks and other debris
- Clean the area each day before the shift ends
- Must be 18 years of age
- Demonstrated excellence in oral communication
- Strong attention to details
- Demonstrated personal leadership and positive can-do attitude
- Able to work flexible hours and able to work in fast-paced and varying environments
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment
