Position Summary
Salary: $106,100.00 - $129,600.00 annually depending on experience. This is a working supervisor position overseeing the Building Performance Services - Building Systems Efficiency Team consisting of Energy efficiency / operational optimization engineering , existing building commissioning and energy / control systems project management. The position will focus on energy efficiency of building systems, ensuring the annual Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) list is created, accurate, relevant and prioritized for optimum results. In doing so, partnerships with academic units, student groups, consultants and various utility teams will be required in order maximize effectiveness of MSU resources in our fulfillment of meeting our campus energy efficiency goals.
The technical focus of the position is responsible for estimating, planning, designing, directing, inspecting, and analyzing the installation, construction, alteration, operation, and repair of highly complex mechanical, structural, electrical, environmental, electronic, and computer‑based systems across new and existing campus facilities. The role provides conceptual planning and develops cost estimate s for large scale, campus wide projects; produces design plans and specifications; and actively manages a substantial portfolio of ongoing projects.
Additional responsibilities include addressing customer concerns related to construction costs, serving as a public facing liaison with MSU stakeholders, reviewing and approving project payment applications, and authorizing payments. The role prepares detailed technical reports and cost studies; interviews, evaluates, schedules, and recommends employees; assigns internal skilled trades personnel to specialized projects; and negotiates with external contractors as needed. It also involves screening new suppliers, coordinating required State inspections, and maintaining internal system records.
The Breakdown Of Responsibilities Are As Follows
40% Manage assigned, very complex multi-craft projects in Planon and Power BI, including estimating, design, project management, procurement, scheduling, inspection, manage internal skilled labor, and manage contracted labor, and project closeout.
20% Provide control system estimating, design (including detailed AutoCAD drawings), SME technical assistance, and oversee contracted labor to assist Building Services (Maintenance Services, Project Services and Building Performance Services).
20% Oversee day to day operations in a 'working supervisor' capacity to Building Systems Efficiency Team - which consists of Re-Commissioning Project Managers, Energy Systems Project Manager (PIA), Energy-Operations Engineer, Professional Aides and Student Employees. Responsibilities will consist of project assignments / priorities, annual reviews, leading the compilation of energy conservation measures (ECM list) , process management of internal and 3rd party Re-Cx, interface with Consumers Energy.
10% Lead energy related initiatives, both internal to IPF and externally focused to support the academic mission and meet our campus energy efficiency goals through collaboration with local utilities, campus research teams and industry partners.
10 % Provide technical SME support to Planning, Design and Construction as related to both new builds and existing system retrofits in the area of HVAC controls systems and other energy related systems.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in mechanical, electrical, HVAC/energy or applied engineering, energy modeling/analysis, mathematics, and/or statistics; over eight years or related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in operations and maintenance of high-performance buildings, and in energy analysis/modeling, operations and facilities management; including design, methods, materials, codes, maintenance and operation of appropriate systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license at the time of hire.
