Position Summary

The Assistant Building Operations Manager supports the Building Operations Manager in the day-to-day operation of the MSA Lakeshore facility. This position serves as the primary operational leader during assigned shifts, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient facility operations, and a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all athletes, families, and guests.


The Assistant Building Operations Manager is a hands-on leader who works alongside staff while assisting with scheduling, training, facility operations, events, retail, concessions, and customer service. This role is intended to prepare individuals for future Building Operations Manager opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Facility Operations

  • Serve as the on-site supervisor during assigned shifts.
  • Work a minimum of 32 facility operational hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, organized, safe, and operating according to MSA standards.
  • Complete daily facility walkthroughs and address operational issues promptly.
  • Assist with daily and weekly field/court and event setup.
  • Ensure staff complete assigned cleaning checklists and operational responsibilities.
  • Monitor facility equipment and report maintenance concerns.

Staff Leadership

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training facility staff.
  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, and support to front desk and operations staff.
  • Assist with employee scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  • Cross-train in all operational areas of the facility.
  • Communicate operational expectations and reinforce MSA standards.
  • Assist with performance feedback and employee development.

Customer Experience

  • Deliver exceptional customer service while creating a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Enforce facility policies and procedures consistently.
  • Build positive relationships with athletes, families, renters, and guests.
  • Gather customer feedback and communicate improvement opportunities.

Programs, Events and Rentals

  • Assist with coordinating leagues, rentals, tournaments, camps, and special events.
  • Ensure operational readiness for all scheduled activities.
  • Assist with event setup, execution, and breakdown.
  • Coordinate with coaches and program directors to ensure successful events.

Retail and Food Service

  • Assist with concession and retail operations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate ordering needs.
  • Help maintain attractive retail displays and clean concession areas.
  • Maintain required certifications (ServSafe and Alcohol Certification, when applicable).

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist with payroll documentation and scheduling records.
  • Maintain inventory of cash tills, safe, first aid supplies, AEDs, and operational equipment.
  • Assist with purchasing, invoices, and inventory management.
  • Complete operational reports, incident reports, and data entry accurately.
  • Support billing and facility management systems as assigned.

Safety and Compliance

  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all MSA policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability.

Professional Standards

  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the MSA uniform policy.
  • Demonstrate initiative, leadership, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Recreation Management, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in customer service, recreation, hospitality, or facility operations.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 95% of shift).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, climb, lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks requiring fine motor skills, including typing, filing, and telephone use.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to safely perform assigned duties.
