Position Summary
The Lead Medical Assistant plays a pivotal role in the coordination and oversight of all Medical Assistants within designated location(s). This position is responsible for ensuring that the Medical Assistant team is well-equipped, trained, and adheres to the highest standards of patient care and professionalism. The role involves leading by example, monitoring clinic workflows, and maintaining a high level of cleanliness and efficiency in clinical areas.
Duties and Responsibilities
- In collaboration with Clinic Coordinator, provides oversight and guidance for all Medical Assistants within designated location(s).
- Coordinate and ensure that the medical assistant team has the resources, tools and training needed to successfully perform their daily duties.
- Assist new hires through the onboarding and training program, including assisting in interviews, conducting shadow sessions, and performance evaluation of new hires in collaboration with the Clinic Coordinator and trainer.
- Completes and maintains weekly schedule assignments and task assignments for the Medical Assistant department within that location.
- In collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator monitor and maintain clinic workflows to ensure performance standards are met, including offering support for providers.
- Demonstrate exemplary level of cleanliness and professionalism to clinical areas and team according to MOS standards.
- Operate as person of contact for addressing clinical patient conflicts and concerns and escalates to management as needed.
- Monitor clinic workflows and inform patients of potential delays.
- Adhere to organizational policy and procedures with particular attention to standards of conduct and confidentiality as it aligns with HIPAA.
- Provide support for Medical Assistant team when staffing needs require performing duties of Medical Assistant members including general clinical and administrative tasks.
- Monitors all provider staff buckets to ensure the completion of patient cases in a timely manner.
- Audits the Medical Assistant department to verify all tasks within a patient encounter are completed with thorough documentation.
- Assists and completes authorizations for specialty medication and delegates tasks to Medical Assistant team members.
- Function as medical assistant team liaison to maintain effective working relationships among patients, providers, and other department staff members. Assist in problems that arise among team members including escalation of provider concerns.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.
- The ideal candidate would have completed a certified/registered medical assistant program
