Job Summary
The Kaczorowski lab is looking to fill a position for a Research Lab Technician Intermediate.
A full-time research technician position is available in the Kaczorowski lab in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan Kaczorowski Lab (umich.edu). We are seeking a laboratory technician with experience in rodent handling and molecular biology techniques to work on several exciting projects involving rodent modeling of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease.
Responsibilities*
The successful candidate will participate in animal handling, animal behavior assays, mouse genotyping, immunohistochemistry, and assisting with the management of transgenic mouse colonies. In addition, they will supervise and help train undergraduate research assistants and junior technicians in the lab. We are looking for someone that has the aptitude to learn new techniques, works well with others, and possesses strong critical thinking skills.
Mouse Handling And Husbandry Skills Preferred (training Is Provided).
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. - Help maintain lab organization and record all information, daily, in an official electronic laboratory notebook.
- Assist with experiments that involve mouse handling and animal behavior assays.
- Maintain organization of mouse colonies, including supervision of genotyping and genetic crosses.
- Assist with tissue dissection.
- Participate in periodic research discussions.
- Present data and plans for new experiments during laboratory meetings.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and achieve short- and long-range plans.
- Ensure functionality and maintenance of instrumentation.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- 2-3 years of experience in a related field
