Job Summary
Research Investigator in electrophysiologic study of rodent sleep and circadian rhythms
Candidates are being considered for a research investigator position in the laboratory of Dr. Brendon Watson in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. We seek candidates with strong research backgrounds to work on a project using combined high-density electrophysiology and behavioral monitoring in rodents to examine the neurobiology of sleep and circadian rhythms. Research, training, mentorship and career development opportunities are offered in the context of the PI's lab which combined rodent behavioral approaches with brain electrophysiology. The candidate will have access to neuroscience facilities and computational resources at the University of Michigan. The candidate will also be encouraged to cultivate connections with other teams across the University of Michigan, such as Psychology, MCDB and Biomedical Engineering.
Responsibilities*
Primary responsibilities will be data acquisition, data analysis and paper writing for studies designed to identify neural correlates of both social behaviors and sensory learning in separate studies. Research, training, education, and mentorship are offered in the context of the PI's lab.
Required Qualifications*
This position is for maximum a four-year research investigator appointment. Applicants should have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in rodent behavior, electrophysiology, sleep and circadian rhythms. They should have rodent surgical skills, electrophysiologic expertise, knowledge of spike sorting, data processing and electrophysiologic data and publications in related fields. They should possess writing skills and be prepared to contribute to the writing and dissemination of study findings.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
