Job Summary

As a Cath Tech at Michigan Medicine, you will deliver exceptional care in a nationally recognized as a top ten cardiovascular center year after year. The role includes monitoring, circulating, and scrubbing on a patient population with known or suspected congenital or acquired cardiac and peripheral disease. Responsibilities*

You will participate in research protocols, while also having a role in peer to peer teaching and/or in-servicing.

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills
  • You will perform technically difficult emergency care including these procedures: Emergent PCI, LVAD & RVAD placement, IntraAortic Balloon Pump use, and thrombectomy once proper orientation is completed. Other tools such as Optical Coherence Tomography, Intravascular Ultrasounds, Fractional Flow Reserve and atherectomy will also be utilized after additional training.
  • Once proper orientation is completed; you will successfully perform in structural heart procedures.


Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some experience in a catheterization type of laboratory


Physical Requirements

  • This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.


Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with interventional and structural heart procedures, surgical instruments, and sterile technique.
  • Existing ARRT with advanced certification for CV, VI
  • Existing RCIS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • Understands and demonstrates the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including: Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration.
  • In addition, it's preferred that you have 1 of the 3 following qualifications:
  • RCIS certification or must be eligible for RCIS exam as a graduate of an accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology with the RCIS exam being successfully completed within one year of hire.
  • Candidate has obtained an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification for Radiography with at least 1-2 years of diagnostic general imaging experience and (ARRT) advanced certification for Cardiac Interventional (CI) is required within 2 years of hire.
  • Candidate is a graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate academic program in health science (includes, but not limited to: cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, nursing or paramedic/EMT) with the RCIS exam being successfully completed within two years of hire.


Modes of Work

Positions are on site at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, Cardiac Procedures Unit.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, 36 hour per week position. On call is required, with a 30-minute response time.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
