Location: Grand Rapids, MI (4047 East Hills Ct SE) Job Type: Full-time (7:45 AM – 4:00 PM, 1-hour lunch)

Summary

We are seeking a dependable and personable Phlebotomist to join our team in Grand Rapids. In this role, you will be responsible for drawing quality blood samples and preparing specimens for lab testing while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence with our patients.

The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys their work, communicates effectively, and is proactive in assisting the clinical staff during quieter periods to ensure smooth patient flow.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

• Specimen Collection: Collect blood samples according to established procedures, ensuring skillful and safe venipuncture for all patients, including pediatric and geriatric.
• Accuracy & Verification: Research test information to verify orders and perform strict verification of patient demographics. Ensure all tubes are labeled correctly in the patient's presence.
• Proactive Teamwork: Coordinate with Medical Assistants (MAs) to get patients in and out efficiently. Assist with floor needs, check for specimens that need to be sent out, and help complete necessary lab paperwork.
• Administrative Duties: Accurately complete data entry, maintain phlebotomy logs (including maintenance and temperature logs), and manage inventory/supply ordering.
• Customer Service: Enhance the patient experience by consistently displaying excellent customer service, behavior, and attitude.
  
  

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: 1 year of experience in a medical office setting.
• Skills: Excellent phlebotomy skills; ability to provide error-free work in a fast-paced environment; proficiency with EMR systems.
• Compliance: Must adhere to HIPAA regulations, health and safety policies, and the Solaris Health Code of Conduct.
• Certification: License or certification as required by the State.

Summary

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

• Collects specimens according to established procedures.
• Researches test/client information to confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems or directory of services.
• Responsible for completing all data entry requirements accurately.
• Performs departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answers phones when needed.
• Performs verification of patient demographic information/initials including patient signature post venipuncture to verify tubes were labeled in their presence and that the name on the label is correct.
• Maintains all proper phlebotomy logs on time and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
• Completes training courses and keeps up-to-date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
• Enhances communications by consistently displaying excellent customer service skills in behavior and attitude.
• Performs other position related duties as assigned.
• Employees shall adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and will comply with and assist in complying with all applicable laws and regulations. This will include and not be limited to following the Solaris Health Code of Conduct and all Solaris Health and Affiliated Practice policies and procedures; maintaining the confidentiality of patients' protected health information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); immediately reporting any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department; and the timely completion the Annual Compliance Training.
