PART-TIME SPEECH and LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

The following position is being posted for the 2026-2027 school year and will be contracted through EDUStaff.

DESCRIPTION: Part-Time Speech and Language Pathologist

LOCATION: Meridian Public Schools

STARTING DATE: 08/19/2026 and follow the Meridian School Calendar

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited college or university, a Michigan LARA Speech-Language Pathologist license, and a Certificate of Clinical Competency

RATE OF PAY: $55-$65 per hour depending on Qualifications and Experience

SUPERVISOR: Special Education Director

SPEECH and LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
Position Purpose
A Speech and Language Pathologist provides evaluations and services to students with identified impairments in accordance with their Individualized Education Plans. Serves as a resource for the development of communication skills and systems. Services are in a K-12 Public School setting.

REPORTS TO: SPECIAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides speech and language therapy to individuals with impairments, including development of individual education plans.
  • Works with children to develop verbal and nonverbal communication, speech sound improvements, the appropriate use of voice, and fluent speech.
  • Assists general and special education teachers in providing speech improvement supports.
  • Provides assessments and diagnoses of speech, language, voice and fluency impairments.
  • Develops goals and objectives based on evaluation results and/or student progress.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with all staff, families, and community organizations and agencies.
  • Maintains and provides the appropriate documentation, paperwork, and progress reports.
  • Attends staff meetings and professional development as appropriate.
  • Works with parents/guardians to explain goals and methods of therapy.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties and related work as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
  • Michigan LARA Speech-Language Pathologist license.
  • Certification through ASHA.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency preferred.
  • Previous work experience preferred.
  • Possess sensitivity to and interest in the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain effective scheduling.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, other agencies, and the general public.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to utilize software applications, electronic mail, and word documents.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward with hands and arms. Moderate concentration/intensity, which includes prolonged mental effort with limited opportunity for breaks. Average memory is needed, considering the amount of time and type of information. A moderate level of complexity for decision making and average time pressure of decision making.

The employee must have the ability to move/lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and desks. Specific vision abilities required by the job includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
