Position Summary


The Calibration Laboratory & Business Development Manager is responsible for overseeing all technical, operational, and administrative functions of the Savannah calibration laboratory while driving market growth throughout the coastal Georgia and South Carolina region. This dual-role position ensures that all calibration activities meet quality, accuracy, and safety standards, while expanding Michelli’s customer base through strategic relationship-building, territory management, and solution-driven sales.


Laboratory Operations Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the calibration laboratory, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant services.
  • Maintain accreditation requirements (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025) and ensure adherence to company quality procedures.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop calibration technicians and lab staff.
  • Coordinate workflow, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet customer turnaround expectations.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and repair of lab standards and equipment.
  • Monitor safety compliance and enforce adherence to all environmental, health, and safety protocols.
  • Review and approve calibration certificates, documentation, and job files.


Quality & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with the Quality Team to support audits, corrective actions, and continual improvement initiatives.
  • Implement process efficiencies to improve throughput, reduce cost, and enhance service quality.
  • Maintain documentation, SOPs, and calibration procedures to support accreditation and internal standards.


Business Development & Customer Engagement

  • Develop and execute a strategic growth plan for the Savannah and coastal Georgia territory.
  • Identify new business opportunities in calibration services, precision measurement, and related markets.
  • Build relationships with key industry sectors: manufacturing, ports, aerospace, chemical, food processing, logistics, and others.
  • Conduct on-site customer visits, needs assessments, and solution proposals.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales leadership to strengthen regional brand presence.
  • Prepare proposals, quotes, and service agreements to support customer acquisition and retention.
  • Track market trends, competitor activity, and emerging customer needs.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Operations, Sales, Service, and Corporate Leadership to ensure alignment between lab capabilities and regional demand.
  • Support field service operations when needed for technical expertise or customer coordination.
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and revenue planning.


Required Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in calibration, metrology, measurement science, or related technical field.
  • 5 years of leadership, supervisory, or team management experience.
  • Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 principles and calibration best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical customers.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in weighing systems, measurement instrumentation, and/or dimensional/electrical calibration.
  • Prior experience in business development, technical sales, or customer-facing roles.
  • Experience managing a calibration lab within an accredited environment.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily laboratory and office environment with regular customer site visits.
  • May require lifting up to 50lbs and working with industrial equipment.
  • Travel within the Savannah/coastal region (~50%).
