Job Description
- Develop and support the design of automated equipment and machine accessories.
- Lead mechanical design activities from initial concept through final implementation.
- Translate customer requirements into innovative and practical design solutions.
- Ensure designs meet performance, quality, and functional specifications.
- Design mechanical components, assemblies, and motion systems.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for manufacturing.
- Select and specify standard components such as actuators (pneumatic/electric), valves, sensors, motors, and gear systems.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) within an ERP system.
- Define sequences of operation to support controls development.
- Coordinate with suppliers and fabricators for sourcing and manufacturability.
- Participate in or oversee prototype assembly and testing, making refinements as needed.
- Develop technical documentation, including operating and maintenance manuals.
- Support equipment installation and commissioning at customer sites, both remotely and onsite.
- Review and provide feedback on designs created by peers.
- Provide ongoing technical support to customers after system deployment.
- Travel to customer locations as required (approximately 5%).
The Successful Applicant
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical machine design, ideally within automation or machine tooling environments.
- Experience with Swiss-type lathes or similar equipment is advantageous.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- Strong knowledge of pneumatic and electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with fabrication methods and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to create accurate part and assembly drawings with appropriate tolerances.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team setting.
