We're partnering with a leading engineering firm supporting major utilities and renewable developers across the Pacific Northwest. With a surge in transmission expansion, grid hardening, and renewable interconnection projects, they are seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to take on a technical leadership role.This position focuses on the design and delivery of HV/EHV transmission line projects ranging from 69kV up to 500kV , including long-distance bulk power transmission and critical grid reliability upgrades. You'll act as a technical lead and SME, owning design execution, reviewing deliverables, and mentoring junior engineers.
Job Description
- Lead the design and engineering of overhead transmission lines (HV/EHV)
- Perform and review line routing, structure spotting, and profile design
- Execute conductor selection, sag & tension calculations, and clearances
- Perform loading analysis (wind, ice, thermal) in compliance with NESC
- Design and review steel and wood pole structures, foundations, and assemblies
- Utilize tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER for modeling and design
- Develop and review plan & profile drawings, staking sheets, and construction packages
- Provide technical oversight for reconductoring and uprating projects
- Ensure compliance with utility standards and regional requirements
- Support construction, field engineering, and troubleshooting
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices
- Greenfield transmission line design (new corridors)
- Reconductoring and line upgrades
- Structure replacements and storm hardening initiatives
- Renewable interconnections (solar, wind, BESS)
- High-voltage transmission projects (69kV, 115kV, 138kV, 230kV, 345kV, 500kV )
The Successful Applicant
A Successful Senior Transmission Line Engineer Should Have
- 7-15 years of experience in transmission line engineering
- Strong expertise in HV/EHV systems (69kV-500kV )
- Advanced proficiency with PLS-CADD suite (required)
- Deep understanding of NESC, ASCE, and utility design standards
- Experience with structure loading, foundations, and material specifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering
- PE License required (or ability to obtain)
- Competitive hourly pay ranging from $90 to $110 SD.
