Job Description
The MEP Manager will be responsible for:
- Oversee procurement of major MEPF equipment, ensuring alignment with project specifications, lead times, and budget targets.
- Coordinate closely with general trades and superintendent teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in the field.
- Track and manage MEPF-related RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings to maintain schedule and design integrity.
- Review subcontractor scopes to ensure clarity, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
- Maintain strong communication with the project owner and stakeholders regarding system performance, design intent, and commissioning expectations.
- Monitor cost exposure for MEPF components, identifying risk items early and collaborating on mitigation strategies.
- Lead weekly MEP coordination meetings and document action items, decisions, and responsibilities.
- Support the startup and turnover process by coordinating training, O&M documentation, and post‑occupancy support for all MEPF systems.
- Ensure that MEP sequencing, shutdowns, testing, and energization activities are planned safely and executed without impacting critical project milestones.
- Develop and maintain QA/QC procedures specific to MEPF installations, ensuring workmanship meets project standards.
- Collaborate with commissioning agents to verify system readiness, functionality, and performance metrics.
- Utilize project management software, BIM tools, and reporting platforms to track progress and communicate updates effectively.
- Identify opportunities for system innovation or improvement, leveraging emerging technologies and best practices in data center MEP design.
- Ensure that all MEP subcontractors comply with site safety protocols, environmental requirements, and company policies.
The Successful Applicant
The Successful MEP MAnager Will Have
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing MEP scopes on large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex MEPF systems on mission‑critical or high‑density projects such as data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, or large tech builds.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire protection, and controls systems, including integration across disciplines.
- Proven experience leading BIM‑driven coordination, clash detection, and constructability reviews.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, one‑line diagrams, sequence of operations, and commissioning scripts.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience tracking MEP budgets, forecasting cost exposure, and evaluating change orders.
- Excellent stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with owners, design teams, trade partners, and internal project teams.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple system packages, deadlines, and deliverables in a fast‑paced construction environment.
- Deep understanding of commissioning processes, testing requirements, and turnover documentation for mission‑critical systems.
- Strong organizational skills with a detail‑oriented mindset, ensuring accuracy in submittals, logs, RFIs, and field documentation.
- Experience conducting technical presentations, leading coordination meetings, and communicating complex MEP concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to proactively identify constructability issues, design conflicts, and installation challenges before they impact schedule.
- Familiarity with energy‑efficient design strategies, sustainability practices, and modern building technologies.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers or project staff, contributing to team development and departmental growth.
