Job Description
The Estimator - Civil Construction will:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including quantities, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to assess scope and risk.
- Perform quanitity take-offs for earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete, drainage, and related civil work.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate bids for subconstractors and suppliers.
- Develop project budgets and assist with value engineering initiatives.
- Identify potential cost risks and opportunities during the bid process.
- Maintain historical cost data and track market trends and pricing fluctuations.
- Collaborate with project managers during project handoff to ensure estimate accuracy.
- Support change order pricing and post-bid reviews when required.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- General knowledge of Building and Construction codes.
The Successful Applicant
The Successful Estimator - Civil Construction Should Have
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-7 years of estimating experience in civil or heavy construction.
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods and materials.
- Proficient in estimating software and tools (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam, Excel, or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong mathematicl, analyitcal, and organizationl skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with public works or DOT projects in Connecticut or New England.
- Familiarity with CT DOT specifications and local permitting processes.
- Knowledge of scheduling software and basic project scheduling concepts.
- Prior field or project management experience.
